Big brother?

Jason, Why are you now tracking IP addresses? Seems kind of big brother/big government.

Re: Big brother?

Jason's been logging IP addresses since the old board. Maybe just wasn't as obvious.

Unless you're up to no good, why worry?

Re: Big brother?

Nearly all web sites log the IP of the visitors. Jason is just doing it a little more publicly.

Relax, if you are using a dialup connection, it changes every time. All he can get from you is the name of your ISP.

Re: Big brother?

They're right. Any webserver you connect to tracks your IP address. My server has to know your address before it can communicate with you. There's nothing big brother'ish about it. I always think it's ridiculous when someone comments about it. You know my server's IP address .. why shouldn't I know yours?

The new forum software just allows me to view your address easier from a browser without having to telnet into the server to check it.

Re: Big brother?

" Big Brother/Big Gevernment " would be true IF it were the government, and /or used for nefarious purposes. Personaly I'd want to know if I ran a website, so if I got a chronic trouble maker or threats I'd know where to turn. If you really have that much to hide, sign up with one of the cash only truely anonymous ISP's. Most of them have firewalls also. If you can't find one of the truely anonymous ISP's; then you aren't in the leage to need one.
