Entering text into PM section

Just wondering why it is that with todays prices of memory, or hard drive space, there is a specific allowable amount of characters within the Private Message window?

I haven't used the forum in some time, and sent out a couple of PM's to find I was 'over' on the amount of characters? Seems a little like going back in time when hard drive space was of a huge concern...but characters/text I wouldn't think would be a big issue?
At any rate, it's just a little annoying to type out ones thoughts, then have to pare it down after doing so.

Not a huge deal...just an annoying one, while trying to do some research.

Dale,

I don't know what or if there is a limit for the amount of text in a PM. I have not experienced that myself.

Hopefully, Nadeem, the administrator, will answer this question.

Dick

It's interesting that you replied Dick, as the PM I tried sending...was to you!

Apparently there must be, as twice it showed how many "characters" I had typed, and it told me to pare it down to 1000 characters.
