the idea that you have to split up the forums sounds good. the only problem i see is that people will get lazy and post anything and everything in the general forum. smokey is right you are going to need some active moderators to move the posts to where they belong.
Would it be possible to have a main page set up as a read only style and then if you see a topic, click and it takes you to that sub-forum where you can reply or read the entire thread? Obviously don't know much about computers, just inquiring.
What about using a naughty language checker on each of the sub forums - each one set with a list of keywords used primarily in one of the other topics. That way - posting about ordering process would get blocked from all forums BUT where it is supposed to be.

And also his splitting ideas. Those seem to be the most logical lines of division.
Vancouver: The forum software would simply place **** where the words would be. It wouldn't work. It would probably require much more sophisticated natural language program that...
1. Probably doesn't exist for this purpose
2. Costs more than my truck if #1 is false
Oh by the way:
Only 4 more days of school left this semester... Then I code the hell out of the FAQ

Smokey for prez!
i like the idea of breaking up the 99 forum. smokey's break-downs look well thought out (imagine that)--they are to the point (it might have to be done w/the other forums eventually)
is there any way to have the 99+ have their own "todays active topic" list....it seems as if i have to scoll through 2-3 pages of their stuff to get to the pre-PSD active topics......

I second the motion that Smoky be a moderator, and I really like the idea of sub-forums it would bring organization to the 1999-up forum.

I like the idea of breaking it up into sub-catagories. I read above that someone said that by doing it this way they miss some of the articles. When I go to ford-diesel.com I click on the forums hyperlink and then I click on (Click Here To View Today's Active Topics (all public forums)) that way I don't miss much unless it doesn't interest me.

Hey, guys, thanx for the flowers, but those were not my ideas. Four were Jason's, and the 5th was Clancy's. I just sort of copied them into one post.
Clancy, your "wiring and electrical" idea would be part of Jason's "upgrades/aftermarket equipment", right? And your "towing and trailering" title needs to be adjusted to include hauling huge overweight truck campers, right?
How about "towing trailers and hauling campers"? Any other ideas for a more-descriptive title?
Revised forum titles would then be:
Ordering and receiving your new Ford Truck
'99-up engine/drivetrain
'99-up upgrades/aftermarket equipment
'99-up towing trailers and hauling campers
'99-up general questions (gassers welcome here!)

I support the idea of a gasser-friendly forum. This may be ford-diesel.com, but the general info about Ford trucks on this site is a great resource for all.
>Those type of forums are okay, but there's no way I'm letting someone else host my forums. That's just asking for trouble in my opinion. Everything on this site is running from a server at my house, and I intend to keep it that way.
From what you say you are having trouble keeping up, at Delphi you won't and you have complete control over your forum uncluding password entry. You maintain complete ownership of your forum. In addition message handling is easier and better with Delphi than what you are using. Please take a close look. You will neve have growing pains with Delphi.

Just a thought on helping new people access the Archives. Maybe on the Home Page you could make some type of notation/banner (whatever you'd call it) trying to catch the attention of the new people so that they utilize the Archives and Search Engine more often. This may cut down a bit on some of the same postings we see week after week. As far as the other stuff, I don't know a thing about how this type of 'software' works, where the bottlenecks are, etc. I'll leave that up to you computer wizards!
PS, Smokey would make an excellent moderator if he'd take the job
Yesiiirrr! This forum is wonderful. Don't go moving somewhere and turning it into a free-for-all! The moderation and control is what keeps the quality level generally high.
