Freaking Ad City!!

Have not been here in a while. I see some others started similar threads and were basted by others about being newbies without the right to complain. Well, I aint the oldest poster but have paid my dues and this site is just disgusting. I know its the AMERICAN WAY to make money and their hit count means big bucks now but the ads are so pervasive! Its like wading through an ocean of jello to find a spoonful of pudding. So crassly commercial.

I went to a stupid Toby Keith concert and it was the same way---so totally commercial. He ran in, slammed some songs out with no emtion and left. Did I mention that before he sang, they dropped a screen and ran a Ford truck commercial, and the bigest stage prop was the front end of a Ford truck with the lights on? Yeah, right from the heart, Toby.

Anyway, there is my measily two cents, not that they matter.

some agreement...

I have some agreement with you on the commercial changes I call: "Ad-nauseum"
I do think it is so ironic (and more than a little funny) to remember the huge amount of whining by several others prior to the sell-off by Jason.
Remember when Roofeditor, GeorgeC and others started the chronic, massive, never-ending whines about Jason Lester and his "rigid attitude" about not having new topics....like birthday club, offroad activities and more?...about EVERYTHING?!
Now these same guys are almost dehydrated due to the constant teared-up eyes over the new owner's moves and plans being implemented.
I know you were not like the one's I mentioned, but some would kiss the feet of Jason if he would come back with HIS way of doing things once again.
You are correct about the new AD-NAUSEUM look, though!

The fact that you are allowed to post this blithering nonsense without Cutting and Hansen deleting it to their private little room is proof enough things have changed.

In addition the "birthday" forum as you call it is not just for birthdays but for personal announcements like Hig/Tutts kid getting into the academy or you graduating from 8th grade or the promotion of members.

The off road section was created so as to be able to speak about modifications that are not legally street rated.

As to too many adds.........get over it the site is now being run by business people intending to make a profit not as a hobby.

My computer BTW loads just fine and I don't even let the adds bother me. It is what it is. A lot of good changes have been made and hopefully there will be more.

Ads, unfortunately are a reality. They pay the bills. However, if you are signed in as a registered member (totally free) you see much less advertising. In addition, if you decide to become a premium member (which lets face it, is a nominal fee) you see no advertising except the supporting vendor banners and one google adsense banner at the top.

Obviously this place will remain free to everyone who wishes to not pay. However, I don't think it is unfair to show advertising to cover the expenses of the site.

Just for argument sake how much is the premium member? AND does it speed things along?

Too funny on adds pay the bills......a complicated concept for some.

$25.00 a year or $65.00 for a lifetime or 25 years what ever comes first. To check on it go to "My Account" and then on the bottom left " Miscellaneous" then to "Paid Subscriptions"
I don't think that it speeds anything up but with only a couple of adds it helps.

I am relatively new to this site, and I have no problems with the speed of page loads. I am running IE7 and DSL 1.5mbps download speed. Even with the laptop on wireless 54mbps there is no problem. I joined this site because I became the proud owner of a Diesel Ford. I had an '86 F-250 460/C6 with tons of mods. I wouldn't go back to it now that I have pulled the 5er. If the ads bother you then you are spending to much time looking at the wrong part of the page. I come here to look at the posts and LEARN. I have worked on autos "on the side" for the last 35+ yrs. and I am learning ALOT about Ford Diesels through this web site and the posts. If ads and banners are what keep the information FREE, then I am going to KEEP ON LEARNING. Thanks for letting me say my piece.

So ...administration does read this page .....

I'm still waiting to hear what the membership did for me ...aside from more storage for PM's & two stickers...

The site is as slow as it can be & no help or answers from administration other than to fix it myself....

For me at least the speed thing has gotten a lot better althoe I do have a blank page show up every now and then.

Sooo, what are the sponsor fees for? I know they aren't cheap..

and the site loads slow for me at work and at home - no matter how fast my computer is (with slight variation due to different hardware configurations) and I had to reload the page 5 times this morning just to be able to see the home page. Goolge ads do "help", but don't add up to much at all by just being there... put them in the footer and leave them there.. I know I never click on them

if you pay for a membership, I feel you should have AD FREE browsing.. tahts what the sponsor section is for with their banners in the forum description..

but, alas - I'm one of the newbies (been a member for over a year - so know what the changes have been), so I guess I'm just blowing hot air...

I find it offensive that an administrator (company) etc. has crippled this site with "In your face" advertising and then justifies that action by issuing a pay us and we will make it better comment. You can display the advertisements on the bottom or side of the page. Instead, you have made a deliberate and annoying attempt to drive away the faithful members hoping that a few guinea pigs will help pay the bills on top of the advertising campaign. If it were not deliberate, I could display useful information, on any page, without first having to scroll down off bottom of the page to find the true content.

Use the ads all you want to fund the site, but move them out of the way of the information that brought us here in the first place.

It's only my opinion but, it sure didn't take the new owners long to turn the best site around into the worst site. I can honestly say I don't think I have ever been to web site that has as much advertising as this. It is truly awful.

This very second on the page I am posting on or to I see an add for BD Diesel at the top of the page and an add for EBAY at the bottom. Two ads on the page ?????/ How is this a big deal?
