Network Computer Problem

Just before the Ford-Diesel crash of 9/28, my work computer refused to go into the "Forums" page from the home page. You can enter Ford-Diesel.com just fine. But if you click on the FORUMS link, the computer cranks awhile and then you get the standard Explorer5.0+ error page “This page cannot be displayed…” If you click on an email address (as in the one that is sent to you when someone replies to a message that you have marked “send email notification when a reply is posted…”) it does the same thing. This is only a problem with my computer that goes through our (Radio Shack) firewall. My DSL test computer (which has a separate phone line that does not even goes through our switchboard) can access this page just fine.

I’ve been beating on our network guys, trying to find a solution. (I automatically blame them for my problem with the network computer.) They are saying that their firewall is NOT the problem, but that they can duplicate the problem on their computers also. They asked me to ask you if there was any modifications that were made to the FORUMS page that would make their system puke and die. All other links are fine – only the FORUM link is causing us problems. The problem seems to be related to the “cgi” modifier used in this link, but that is a guess on their part. They have no proof.

Any idea’s?

Re: Network Computer Problem

Well they fixed it. What is scary is they didn't know what was wrong. To fix it they entered my computer ID number and any time they see it linked with the cgi modifier, they force the address through the firewall. It sounds to me like that is the network wienie's version of using a bigger hammer.

Thanks for your advise.
