How about we create a new "George W. Bush" Forum? This way all the Political Nutjobs that just can't let it go (whatever side they are on), get a place to go and they can quit hijacking threads left and right in the "Other" forum?
I dunno, i think giving a political forum a go might not be a bad idea. I imagine it would take alot of strain/stress off the "other forum". There are alot of people that debate the politics that are good people too, you would have a pretty abundant supply of good moderators for the political forum.
Well... maybe create a forum just for politics(?). That way everyone wins. Those who want the political struggle can go their own way and the Other Forum can be less dramatic and less oppositional.
Jason - I think you may be tempted (again) to dump the Other Forum. That's your call to make. I'm suggesting you keep it - but in some alternate form. I think it would be good practice and good business. Members join and keep coming back for many different reasons. Their diverse interests represented here surely must be attractive to advertisers.
Thanks for listening and for all you do.

People don't "ONLY" come here for truck stuff. You've been to Rallys Jason, There is a lot more than just trucks discussed at them as well. It is Closed Minded to think you will get people to "ONLY" talk trucks here. If you told people at a rally they could only talk trucks they wouldn't show up. I agree. IMHO it's time to get back to basics, which is the Ford Powerstroke diesel. I do enjoy reading some of the topics in the other forum but several of the more colorful members can't seem to follow the rules. I think the Other forum should be removed. It distracts from the core goal of this site.

I use about 5 forums on the site. The "Other" is one of them.
It is not distracting if you do not click the button on any of them. It is your choice so why and try and penalize the other users of the site ?

Then why have the "Other" forum????? Your statement makes no sence. "This isn't a general discussion site" yet you have a forum that is basically open for any general discussion.
I didn't really believe you would create another forum especially for political discussion. I guess my main point is.. I dont care what people think politically or if they want to discuss it in a thread but these people are hijacking threads left and right. I started a discussion on the stress of layoffs tonight, 2nd post into it and someone starts blaming Bush for it, then the defenders come in, and back and forth until its an all out political blowout. There are several Bush threads (that just seems to be the hot topic right now) I just wish these hotheads could at least keep it On Topic in the Off Topic section.

Bob, the core goal of the site isn't affected at all by the other forum. A lot of people don't even know it's there. And rather than removing the other forum, anyone like yourself could simply not go there, like you probably don't go to certain other sections of the website that don't interest you.
Jason, perhaps a fee-based political forum would work. Subscription only, a token amount (maybe $35 per year), and nobody that isn't signed up can even enter. A lot of people would likely sign up, and give you a strong income stream, provided it was moderated with a less strict set of rules. Quarrels between members stop at "the door", and those folks everywhere else on the website would be oblivious (or may be curious enough to subscribe).
You spent a lot of time and money, Jason, in attracting such a large membership, who ultimately loose interest in trucks 24/7 and want to talk about other things. We all know each other to a degree (and have formed actual bonds of friendship in many cases), and simply sending us away to the 4 corners of the net for political issues isn't the best thing to do, business-wise, IF there is a practical way to keep the group together and "on site". The fee-based political forum may be the answer. It could include other "forbidden" topics as well.
This could be a real "win-win" situation. And those "subscription topics" would be easy to totally forbid in the "non-subscription other forum". Folks that didn't know at first would be directed to the "subscription other forum". The subscription forum could even allow religion and racing, etc. Basically, Jason, with light moderation, you'd mostly just be selling server space. I predict a larger audience, and the return of some members who have drifted away, particularly if you notify them of the new service. I'll be the first to give you a credit card number if you decide to do it.

LOL, based on past experience, you won't have very many people to trade jibes with if that were the case. I think the membership would be somewhere around six .................. maybe!
Why not just go to another site which welcomes all of the types of threads and "free for all" you want, but Jason doesn't? All it takes is a click of the mouse! How much time does it take to click on an icon to get back to this site? I submit, not very much! LOL

I don't see a problem, I don't like the threads that only post a link to a far left or right site, then the author never comes back.
I guess if you have a problem with your thread getting locked, you'll either stop doing what your doing or go somewhere else.
If it's a PIA to lock a thread, that's another issue.
