New replies

Lately (today)I've been having a problem in the forums with the new replies (in red) count that no longer reset or update when I use the index button at the bottom of the page nor does it reset when I refresh the page. They only reset when I logout and re-login. Is there a problem on my side or are the some new bugs going on there? If it's my side where do I start to fix it?

Have you tried clearing out your internet cache and cookies?

Re: New replies

Phil,

If it is what you do when you go to internet tools and "clear files" and "delete cookies" then the answer is yes, I do that every time I close the browser. I have an old clunker PII 450mmx and I'm using Windows ME (I know it's terrible} but this has just started happening. If I don't clear the cache often the machine bogs down by the end of the day.

Re: New replies

Big un If you will click on the "forum" right under the The Diesel Stop header that will usually up date what you have read and leave the others red. If you click on the all forums read it will clear all red numbers in all forums and start over. I wished that it would clear just the forum that you were in.

Hope that helps a little. - - ED

Re: New replies

H ED S,

No that didn't work either, it simply sent me out to the forums list where the visited forums light bulb went from yellow to white, but when I returned to this post the red "new replies" was still at (1) your post.
But Thanks for the suggestion. I have even tried re-installing the "default" settings in the advanced internet tools section. ????Oh well?? At least I can still log on and read the posts.

Hummmmmmmm Big un I just did the "forums thingy on this and two other forums and it cleared all the "red" post markers for that particular forum and changed the light bulb to white. When there is a new post in one of these forums the light bulb will change to yellow and than I can look and see if it is a topic that I am following, if not I can clear it again by doing the forum thingy again. This basically does what other bulletin board programs call "mark this forum as read". Just a back door way of doing it. If you click the "MARK ALL READ" in the big header below it it will mark all forums as read and change all the light bulbs to white. I do this when leaving the site and then when I come back I only have new replies to topics in al the forums.

That works for me and good luck

On Edit: I did the forum thing and then came back to this section and there were no "red " new post indicators in this forum. I do not know what is different between us as these are controlled by "INFOPOP" - the system that Jason uses for the bulletin board. Edit II: Big un I went back to one of them and if I did not open a thread the number of post to it were still there in "red" . My bad. hehe It still changes the color of the light bulb.

Re: New replies

Ed,

My issue was/is that as I read a post in a forum (I read all the new ones in the 94-97 forum) the blue title changes to black after it is read (normal) but the background does not change (shade darker) nor does the new replies indicator. If I simply use the back button this is normal and the replies should not change, how ever, when at the bottom of a post one uses the index button it should reset the forum to indicate which posts have been read and which haven't with the replies gone in the read ones and remaining on the unread ones. At least it used-to work that way until I posted the problem. The light-bulb thing still works fine. I've resigned myself to simply living with it for now as it seems to be something on my end. I will take note if it starts running again and try to remember what it was that got it going again...if it ever does. Thanks again for your help.

Re: New replies

Hey !
Thanks for the shortcut...
You know how it is... the first time you find what works, you usually don't experiment with new ways of doing things...
this will save me a bit of time for sure !

And maybe your 'unread' count is not clearing because this site is SO popular there are new post ALL the time !

Kudo's to the site Admin ! Great site!
