There has been a little tift going on for months now concerning the operation of the other section. Many regular posters, myself included, to some extent did not agree with some of the new restrictions placed on posts. Many were encouraged by fellow members to go to other sites, where "it is more liberal as to what you can post". I registered at two of them. I have posted a very few times at both of them. My posts were off color and included profanity many times. I felt somewhat uncomfortable with the content of my posts but I sorta "wanted to fit in". I quickly found that I could not hang in with some of the sordid and unusual posts and content of the sites. The sites are riddled with condemnation of this site and especially toward this sites owner. I now know why, they fear and despise someone who is willing to stand up defiantly and tell them to go to *&^% and stand their ground, such as this sites administrators have done. I do not consider myself a message board junkie, but I do enjoy a good debate or the ability to quickly get answers to questions from folks. I joined this site primarily because I bought a 6.0 X and later my ownership experience was negative. This site helped me immensely. I now have a 7.3 and have gotten much help for that. This site is without peers for getting good information on Ford diesel trucks.
I made the mistake of somewhat "sticking up" for this site at another site and was subjected to some of the most profane, perverted, attacks I could imagine. Some seem to thrive on this. I now, even though inside I always knew, why this sites administrators run such a tight ship. My friends, if they did not there are vast forces of posters out there that would immediately turn this site into a waste dump of meaningless juvenile B.S. I do not always agree with moderation here and in fact have had my membership threatened. But I will tell you with all candor, right or wrong, strong active moderation is absolutely necessary to maintaining order, decency and civility in the realm of the internet...........Just wanted to get that off my chest and express my appreciation here..............wanna have some fun.............go to some of those websites, and see what they say about me for this post..........they lurk here all the time.......then you will see what I mean and enjoy your membership here all the more................... BTW I absolutely do not intend this post to be bait to ask me for the websites, if you do not know do not ask, you have not missed anything. Hig

Such a response expected, does'nt change a thing I said, just another personal attack...................

I agree with both of you (Hig and AK) to an extent.
With Hig as far as not being overly impressed with some of the content on some of the other sights and the traffic seems to be very limited on the truck and or technical sections.
With AK regarding SOME of the extra freedom provided, when he states different sights for different things.
TDS is not going to be what some of the other sights are (I hope) and the other sights, IMO, will not be what TDS is already, but they do provide entertainment.
ON EDIT: (understanding this will not be implemented and not asking) I would like to see a hybrid of the two, that being a place where controversial topics could be discussed without personal attacks.
BTW, I'm not so sure it is if Hig cannot run with the big dogs or if he maybe would just choose not to.
I actively participate at 6 different sites. They all have their pros and cons and their own unique mix of players. Just stick with the ones that fit and move on when they don't (and have the grace not to whine too much about it).

It sounds like you've taken some hits, Hig. But, for what it's worth, your friends are still at those same sites, bro. And... here as well. We may be tough on you at times, but it does not mean you are not appreciated or that your participation goes unnoticed. Hang in there.

I don't care for profanity and don't use it myself. I used to, but not anymore.
Though this site seems to be restricted to some, it's gotta be one of the more focused sites on the web.
If you do a search and find 'thedieselstop.com' you know you are getting a website devoted to diesels. (with the exception of the SD gasser folks).
Personally, this site fits me. I come here for education on my truck and that's about it. The other section is just dandy as I sometimes need to ask questions about stuff that would require membership at several other sites.
Like mentioned and I totally agree, stick to what fits and don't look back. tds.com fits just right for me.
Take care,
JB

The nicest thing about TDS is you can advise a total stranger to come and look for info here without fear of having them subjected to vulgar and unnecessary language. Nothing in a small comunity will destroy "your good" reputation faster than directing God fearing and respectable people to a site with foul language and off color subjects.
One other point might be that those doing the nasty language may in fact be upstanding citizens of their community or the Boss/stuffed shirt at the office, people who because they remain faceless and nameless can vent their frustrations through such subjects and vulgarity and get away with it without fear of reprisal.
Not to say we all do not need to vent vulgarity sometimes, I think it's just requested by Jason and the majority of users here........"DO NOT DO IT ON TDS".... which is just fine with me.

Good post Hig, I think Jason bears a heavy cross and does a super job here. I felt that way even more so a couple days ago when some jackass, who's post got deleted in a heartbeat but not before I read it, badmouthed and cussed Jason out personally for having the good sense to delete some crap he had previously posted.

Right, some years back on one of the better RV sites two clowns went off cussing and ranting for 3 pages, one wanting to meet the other to beat the crap out of him. The reason----they were argueing over which diesel engine sounds more like a sissy engine, Dodge or Ford. And these were grown up men with families.
I don't know which other site you're referring to but no doubt the ones that get kicked off here have to go somewhere to bad-mouth the moderators here. One jerk got back on here under a total of three names somehow, bad-mouthed me on the 7.3 6.9 IDI forum (at which time I decided I've enjoyed about as much of that as I can stand) but finally got kicked off for good. I've been a member soon after this site started years ago and have always been impressed with the way it has been run.
