This will be somewhat of a two part post, as I'm in need of information from those that have the by-pass oil filtration on their PSD.
When the kit is hooked up (as I'm unsure of how this works) how does the oil get routed back to the engine? I understand how it hooks up to where our existing filter is, but how is the return set up? Thx..
After reading another post regarding how moderators (or at least how it seems) have been given god like powers, and can zap a post to where THEY think it should be. It seems to me that plenty of us have been angered by how this works, as these types of posts don't seem to be truly out of character for the catagory their in, but possibly just out of the realm, so the moderator closes the thread and decides that we should chase it down to wherever "HE" decides it should go.
I'm not out to flame at all the moderators, but find unless the post is WAY out in left field..such as sex, boats, or home repairs, that if it's somewhat relevant to those who own '94 to '97 trucks that it should stay.
Sometimes you are enjoying a post, and then find you have to click all over to get the rest of it in some other area of the forum, which is more a pain in the a** than is needed. Some kind of a referendum is needed, where if a moderator feels a post is unacceptable it goes to an area where those that want to can vote on it to "stay" or "be moved" catagory, with a specific time limit.
I don't know...I just am in agreement with those that are tired of the powers given to moderators that aren't really needed in many cases. There again, it's understandable that some posts truly don't belong at all, and those have to be moved...and someone has to do it obviously, so with that, we need to be thankful that at least someone is watching.
Powerstroke 2000,
I haven't done the bypass filter yet but have been researching them. If you use the system that replaces your original filter with a remote unit then the main supply flow returns to the filter head and the bypass filter flow returns to a place that just drains it back into the crankcase, usually the oil cap. I wouldn't do this system as there is enough trouble mounting a single remote filter and why add more plumbing than necessary?
If you leave the original filter in place and just run the bypass unit remote I believe there are a couple fittings on the side of the engine that can be used for the oil supply. As I recall there is a fitting that can be removed to connect the return line. Seems like that would make a cleaner installation and reduce the amount of hose involved but you'd loose the convenience of being able to check the flow easily. I don't have any issues with the FL 1995 as a full flow filter and would just as soon keep it where it is. There might be some space restriction on the 97 that is different on a Super Duty.
Now as for the rest of your post, that really doesn't belong here and it will be moving to...
I think we're going to have another get together on the Feb 10. If you're looking for a reason to take a road trip come on down. Ron and Sandy (a couple in our still- forming group) have a bypass filter in their 97, you could check out the installation.

Dale, if you use the dual bypass, the oil is routed as it always was. In thru the filter, and back out, the only difference being a small amount stolen for fine filtration. No change in flow direction or anything.
If you use the single bypass, obviously the oil runs it's normal path as well, but the sampling takes place by way of a oil pressure port and flow is controlled by a fixed orifice oin the bypass unit and then it's returned to any desired location. Some choose the oil filler cap, some have tapped the side of the oil pan for example.
Hope that answered your question.
Bob

Again long time no talk to. I kind of agree with you on the treads. Remember the post I had going in regards to "Tip, Tricks & Hints" well that’s a perfect example of censorship. That tread belonged to this forum. All the posts in it were about the ideas all the people on this site gave to help make working and give more ideas to everyone who wanted to see. It was almost a quick look up reference for what you wanted to do to your truck. It was getting to much attention and the thread was locked.
As far as the dual stage oil filtration Bob Riley has the exact answer. It is routed right back to the oil fill cover in the add oil screw cap or I tapped mine because I thought every time you turned the cap to add oil it would be falling around all over the engine and eventually get weak or spill oil every where.
Good luck,
BAZ...

Hmmm... I don't know. Seems like we have a pretty good site. Doesn't cost anything. Good advice. Moderators (like Carpentractor - what would we do with out his page?) or Jason (taking chip tests for us) etc. Seems like a small thing to ask if they need us to keep our sig lines down to three - heck, it's their server (etc, etc). I'm thinking if they feel the need to move a subject - move it. As for the locking of posts - There are several over 3 pages - one I saw over 5! They decided to lock out Baz's post because it was a restatement of other posts. I keep the post addresses on a Word doc and refer to it as necessary if I need to give someone the info. Biggest problem I see is guys don't use the "search" feature enough.
For me, I say thanks for giving us the opportunity to share our ideas -- but it looks like I might be in the minority here.

If you unhappy with the site, don't come here. I think this is an excellent site, if you don't, nobody has a gun to your head to visit it (the moderators don't have that much power).

MODER II, i don't mean to pick on you, but, maybe its not the length of your sig, but the context of which it is in. it is a free country and prefrence is up to the individual, but i don't think that this sort of stuff needs to be placed on your sig. Just my .02 cents.

Dale I- I agree on people not using the search function. I get very tired of reading the 97th rendition of "what oil should I use" or "What's that hissing noise when cold?".
As for sig lines, your sexual orientation doesn't belong in the sig line, I don't have that I'm a heterosexual in mine, nor does anybody else! The sig line should be short and just show what the details of your truck are so others have a frame of reference.
And lastly, I have gathered alot of good info from this site over the years. I like to think I've posted some too. I've gotten ticked a few times over some stuff, but then I have to think, HEY this is FREE. If you are a free guest somewhere you should do as they request, otherwise GO HOME.

I wasn't aware that our sig. was only allowed three lines. I guess it's time to edit it again. Thanks for the info guys before I get the email action. -ibuytoys

I don't remember now if I've ever had a string moved or not, don't think I'd care if I had. I feel like an invited guest here, and try to act like one. Most mature individuals find it's easier to get along with life and each other by following the rules. I try to respond to the thread topic, but realize that I stray at times. Sigs are an issue, some have none and you have to request additional imformation in order to offer opinion, advice or comment. Others offer more information than I feel intitled too about any individual. I don't know, seems lately I've read for quite awhile on a string and when I get to the end, wish I hadn't gotten started on it. I have inlaws that argue with cops...I don't argue with someone that has a gun, or at least, anymore I don't.
I haven't seen any indiscriminate movement of posts at this site yet, the ones I have seen are moved for obvious reasons such as other brand chatter and so on. As for the length of the signature line I didn't know that there was a limitation. I'll have to check mine. And for there content of the signature line I do believe this site is for Ford owner's and user's or individuals with an interest in the Ford light duty trucks and any other information is just a distraction.
My 2 cents.
