I doubt that any administrator will be able to see your password once it is encrypted on this site. You may as well as just go through the process to reset it and not worry about it.

I just got an email saying that my account has been given a new password ( a long gibberish one at that ). Does anyone know if this is real or spam? And if real, why?

Site was hacked probably

Just make a new complex pass word, write it in an email and send it to your self so you don't lose it.
