People abusing the For Sale section

I have noticed that the guy "DLukason@aol.com" has been selling a few exhaust kits in the For Sale section. I have no problem with that. The problem I have is that every day, it seems he deletes his ad and then posts a new one so it is bumped to the top. I'm not curently selling anything there, but this practice is not fair for others who are. Thought I'd put his out and like to here moderators comments on this.

Re: People abusing the For Sale section

The "for sale" section on the site is a joke. I've put stuff on there and it just all of a sudden disappears. It would work out much better if it were put in the forum like style. That way it would be easier to moderate and would get much more traffic. I guarantee more people would look at the new style for sale section also if it were set up this way.

I rarely ever look at the for sale section here. Maybe once every couple months. Other sites I visit, where they have the forum style, I visit the for sale section every time I go there. I see a change like this would be a win win situation, but from what I've seen here lately nothing will happen to improve the way things are now.

This site has gone down hill quickly and I see no signs of a recovery. I don't post every day but have lurked most every day since before registering. I will say I have been lurking at some "other" sites and like what I see. Maybe it's time once and for all to take TDS out of my favorites and move on to places who actually let people talk and discuss things without the worries of their thread being locked, moved or pulled completely.

My .02 for Christmas Eve!!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Re: People abusing the For Sale section

Yep. Looks like someone is trying to run a business out of the For Sale section. When I looked just now, he had two ads on 23 Dec and two more identical ads on 24 Dec - one for duals and one for singles. I'm sure the moderators will put a stop to it now that you've brought it to their attention.

I just looked and from the 4 different part numbers and descriptions there, they are for 4 different items. One for 6.0L single, one for 6.0L duals, one for 7.3L single and the other one for 7.3L duals.

Re: People abusing the For Sale section

Yet you feel he aint running a business? What a pathetic joke.Lock a Merry Christmas thread and allow a person to sell business related stuff in the for sale area.
Maybe it is time for us old folks to move along slowly.

got to agree with you Bob and I did except for reading on the 6.0. I purchased a new 05 X because it is the last year for the vehicle and I loved my 02 X - the family plan did not hurt my decision either.

Yep I guess you cold say that I am an old timer and really would be because if I had registered when I first started lurking I would be in the double digits or low three. Heck that doesn't man a thing .

Hey did you know that Santa is running a PSD sleigh this year so Merry Christmas to you and all. Hope this does not get this thread locked 'cause it is diesel related. Good to see you in hear. &

OK, back on topic;
A for sale forum would make exchanging wanted/unneeded things somewhat easier, and as you say, nearly all of the other 45 sites that I belong to have them, and seem to work out pretty well, only a few people trying to run a business from them and they are pretty much squelched in short order. So, if this were a democracy then a vote for a for sale area would be cast, but,,,,, all we can do is ask for one. So where does the chain of command actually start to ask for such an area? Anyone care to guess?

Here's another vote for an actual for sale section. I've been saying that since I joined the message board but I dont think anyone is hearing us.

I, too, would like to see the section revamped to a forum style format. I read them on the other sites I belong to.

Re: People abusing the For Sale section

On my site, which is also based on UBB.threads, I had a problem with the classified section. A few people were running businesses there, as in this case. Others would jump all over legitimate sellers with price criticisms or whatever. We set up some rules for the forums, and made them "moderated" forums (a simple click of a button in threads). That means none of the posts show up in the forums until they are approved by a moderator. The ads also go away after 30 days to reduce clutter in the database. The system isn't perfect, but it has cut way back on problems.

Maybe something like that would work here.

Re: People abusing the For Sale section

Selling is not the primary reason for this site. Its rather a bother to do because to make it more than it is now leads to all kinds of hassles with moderating it. Best to just do away with it all together if need be. But I do agree that if it remains it should be off limits to scammers and nonadvertizing dealers. But its not a primary thing to me as to why this site exists. You always got eBay! But if that guy is selling multiple items, new stuff, and constantly updating them with new ones he should be toasted. Pay up or get out I say.

I been around a long time. Place looks same old ups and downs to me. It goes in cycles. I just wait em out. Its the internet for gosh sakes. No reason to take is seriously. Any joker with a computer can get in.

If you don't want stuff locked just be carefull what and where you post it. Simple. I sometimes screw up too. But you don't see me crying about it when I am called to account for it. Rules is rules. This is still the best dam Powerstroke site on the net. Probably always will be. It has its down side. But the possitives far outweigh the negatives.
