Still slower then heck here for me. I do use Netscape and have ever since version 1.2 so it will be a real hard one for me to switch. If thats what it takes I will use WinExplorer to get this site and that will be it. If it is faster I will let you know that too.

MUch faster with Win Explorer. It is about 90% faster then my Netscape so your onto something. It would be interesting to see if anyone else that is getting slow responses with Netscape can get faster server replies with Win Explorer. It works for me. Hey Jason,,, Bill Gates isn't send you any type of kickbacks is he???
I happen to be using Netscape tonight, although I do use I.E. as much, but just happened upon Netscape first. I also have a cable modem, and the Forum use has been incredibly slow for me tonight. So much so, that I've decided to go to bed instead of doing so much waiting. Perhaps customs is slowing down the rehtoric as it crosses the border into Canada??
Thanks for your efforts Jason, but I'm hoping you still have more work to get it blazing again!

Ok...just thought I'd check out the difference in using a different browser, and as some have said, I.E. works MUCH faster Jason. As I mentioned in my earlier post, Netscape was incredibly slow...but I too would say I.E. is about 90% faster!
Kind of like an old VW bug and a Viper now!
Still have to go to bed though...all that waiting with Netscape has made me tired.
Night all...

Jason, I switched over to IE5 about 2 weeks ago because of incredibly slow loading of web sites using Netscape. IE5 is *much* faster and though I hate to use MS products it is superior to Netscape since AOL bought 'em. BTW, I log in at about 33K on a phone line modem and your site loads quick enough now.

quote:
Originally posted by JLester: If the system seems slow, are you using Netscape or IE? The new format uses nested tables .. something that Netscape is incredibly slow at processing and displaying. I'm just wondering if the slowness is mostly Netscape users? The pages are popping up really quickly for me tonight with IE 5.5. I'm a Netscape lover at heart .. been using since version 1.22, but they have just really fallen behind in features and rendering speed. I switched to IE about 6 months ago. Mozilla is pretty good, but still slow on my machines.

I was about to suggest the same thing. I also think it is faster since the archive, and have not gotten any error messages or failure of a page to load since yesterday.

Jason - Thanks for the tip on using IE! pages really fly!
I had always used Netscape for browsing as it is the default browser here at work.
Time to set IE as my default browser

Use Netscape at work on a LAN connection, use IE at home using dialup. The Internet explorer is faster on my dialup connection. Something about the new UBB version throws Netscape for a loop.

If anyone is planning to abandon Netscape for IE, you'll probably want to take your bookmarks with you. Even if you don't plan to switch to IE exclusively, duplicate bookmarks are handy.
At home over a dial up it seem to be a little faster. It could also just be in my head. I never tired to use a stopwatch but it seems to be a little faster at home. But at work over a T3 connection it seems to be a little slower. Not slow enough to say much about because it still moving right along . It uses to be so fast the right after I click the thread I wanted to read. I was scrolling down to read the thread. Now when I click on the threads titles I take just a second for it to build the page. Again this is maybe just half a second but it still has a little slower feel.
(But that’s only at work and I still get paid by the hr so don't tell the boss)
Add on edit
Posting and editing a post are a whole lot faster over a dial up now. I think I can post at home almost as fast as I can at work it was never that way before
Ever since the upgrade f-d.com has been sllllooooowwwww. I am using Netscape 4.76; I just switched to I.E 5.5 and it's quite a bit faster, almost as fast as before the upgrade. I am on a cable modem as well, with a 1Ghz system.
I really, really hate IE. I have been a Netscape user for ever, even before it was called Netscape (remember the original MOSAIC?).
Has anyone tried, the admittely buggey, Netscape 6 with f-d.com?
