I found a problem with the primary web server's configuration tonight that may have been causing some of the performance problems lately. It seemed really bad to me tonight.
I found that the Apache webserver processes were each eating 28 megabytes of main memory. Apache keeps about 15 processes running all the time which makes a total of 420 megabytes. The server only has 384MB, so it was using a lot of swap space. That server runs the firewall and port forwarding for the forum server too, so performance on it was also degraded. I fixed the problem and things seem much faster on my end. Let me know if that seems to have helped.
Yes to me it does seem considerably faster now. Was getting a bit frustrating considering the speed I run around the net on.
Thanks for the info.

I know that I mentioned the performance issue to you when we were at the races last weekend but tonight it seems to be doing the same thing. The banners and logo and the top paints up real quick but the forum text is awful slow showing up.

Maybe this is only because I am on a 28.8K connection, but I have yet to experience this site being slow. People constantly complain that the page is slow but I never notice. Maybe I'm just not on it during the slower times.

Still kind of slow out here--but it may very well be our connection. We're kind of out here in the country, and seems like everything is slower out here in the "Land of Manana!"
This is probably a newbie comment / remark, but I've noticed that using my webbrowser's 'back' button is significantly faster that using the site's forum tree or hierarchy or whatevers it is called whenever I've read a thread and want to jump back up one level
Oh yeah, is there a way to always show signature rather than having to check the box each time I post a reply?

Your web browser has something called a cache. This cache is a temp storage of the last few websites you visited. This makes it so that it wont have to go back onto the Internet to redownload a page you already visited. This in turn makes it quicker to reload it from YOUR computer, rather than the website which could be located on the otherside of the world (literally).
In conclusion, clicking the back button would retrieve from the cache, and therefore be quicker than clicking on a "new" link every time. Depending on what browser you use, u can arrange the settings of your cache to your liking. If you do not click reload you may get an older, non updated version of the page you are trying to view.
