The directions in the sticky thread that Dick pointed you to are pretty straight forward. Just make sure you have the correct size pic for your avatar, and get the correct address from the right-click properties menu.
As for the truck link in people's signitures, just go to the page you want to display and get the correct address. With Webshots you have to be logged off and looking at the page as if you were a guest.
Then while editing your signiture, click on the "URL" link in the Instant UBB Code area. The first pop-up box asks for the complete URL, insert the URL to the pictures in this box. In the second pop-up box type what text you want displayed. For instance "Truck Pictures".

You don't get the same UUB code boxes when establishing a signature in "My Home". Only while making a post.

I looked at some of your posts and saw where you posted a link to somwhere but in doing so you did not post a description to the link in the second box that is presented while using the Instant UBB Code "URL" assistant. The same URL was entered as a description. By using the same thing (URL) in both the first and second boxes can, and very often does, make the link too long and necessitate horizontal page scrolling. The first entry box is for the URL and it doesn't matter how long the URL is. The next box is for a few words describing the link and is what gets displayed rather than a http://www. whatever......
I found the URL to your pictures here and set up the link to them in your signature. You can examine the code I put in your signature and you can see how it has to be entered and how you can modify it.
As far as your avatar, get the URL to that then enter it in you profile where the entry box for it says: "Picture (Entire URL)"
