Just recently I have noticed that I am getting a lot of pop up ads while surfing thedieselstop.... is anybody else seeing the same thing? It is quite annoying and none of it pertains to what this site is all about. Nothing has changed on my end, I even talked to our IT people to see if they had changed anything that I wasn't aware of.

I've never had any pop-ups from this site on my home computer or at my computer at work. I mean...not at work
I don't get any while in TheDieselStop - unless I hop out to do an e-mail on my "free" hotmail account. Or click on a members' link to Webcam or some such. When I get out of that link and back to the TheDieselStop, sure enough, there's at least one pop - usually a pop-under instead of a pop up.
I suspect the same applies to you.

I'll bet you have something else lurking on your computer. Bonzi Buddy or Shop Now are the two I usually have to remove from all the users PCs I support. Both of those will show you ads even when the site you are viewing doesn't have popups.

You might want to install "pop up stopper" and "ad aware". These two programs will solve this problem.

Dieselstop dosen't have popup adds but some of the links on members signatures do, for example "photo of my truck" will open another window and take you off site to where you get popup's. I can't vouch for adware, had problems with it but popstopper has solved the problem of unwanted popup and drop down consoles for me.
Its free, it works.
I was just in the other forum reading Bob Rileys post about Linksys when there was a pop up for "Lock Pick - developed by locksmiths" and I had another ad for a program to stop Pop-Ups. Isn't that ironic.
Work would frown on me downlading anything onto my computer, but I might have to ask them anyway.... they are annoying.

Another option (if circumstances will allow ) is to turn off java.
I use netscape for that purpose. In here I am using explorer. For pursing the net I use netscape with jave turned off so I don't get popups etc or even in some cases, redirected to a different site
Thanks for the clarification Jason. When it comes to computers I know how to use them, but have no idea about software, programing, etc. Where would I look for these programs and how do I remove them?
John.

Pop-ups,Spyware,Adware? what are those? run a browser that isn't Microsoft or Netscape I keep Ad-Aware also on hand JIC.

I just wanted to let you know that I use computers daily and thought I knew where all those ad-programs lurked but was still having difficulty finding some of them... It was not until you turned me on to Ad-Aware that I finally got satisfaction.
There were things installed on my computer that I had no idea of, or where they came from. I too think it should be illegal for them to do that. Anyways I hate adding extra TSR programs to my machine which is why I really like Ad-Aware. Thank you very much for the good advice.
