I was wondering the same. That was a good thread. I think it got deleted because it linked to the org. It was about 5 pages long but it linked to the org where they discuss tampering with dpf's and such.
Billy -- If I had to guess, the thread was removed due to the discussion of tampering with or removal of emissions control devices.
Cheers from Tulsa, OK!
Dave
I think the tampering issue has been somewhat a double edge sword for some time. Jason feigning to be the up front straight arrow guy wanted no mention of tampering with emissions because it's not legal. He is technically correct. So be it!
Where the double standard comes into play and really transcends into hypocrisy is the tuners and go fast boxes which make up a major source of the supporting revenue of the site. Now I will not be a hypocrite and freely admit I bought a few thousand dollars of go fast products from vendors/sponsors here, knowing FULL WELL this is not legal. Bailiff slap his PE-PE!!
That said, the mere mention and/or sale of devices that alter the tuning, injection, turbos, exhausts, intakes are clear violations of EPA and CARB laws the moderators are so concerned with. Herein lies the dichotomy, walk the talk or just take the money and pretend it doesn't apply. The law is the law and the rules are the rules, you don't enforce only the ones you like!
My personal opinion is that modifying cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, bikes is like American Pie and the tradition of putting high compression heads and dual fours on your ride is a right of passage that should be left alone. I've modified quite a few trucks and made friends with Dennis at TS, Al/Quad at Quadzilla, and Make Craig all loyal sponsors.
So in conclusion where do we go from here, bite the hand that feeds our site with a quest for integrity or move on with the reality of the situation? You really can't have it both ways.

I'm more so suggesting Jason's original thought although well intended was taken to the extreme by a few moderators trying to prove a point. Doing so drove several sponsors away.
Evey other site I go to welcomes the talk of modifications on trucks and welcomes the money from the sponsors. Again, it's hard to take their money and then disparage them in the same breath!

So, a motivated buyer comes on here, buys some..ahem..off road only use equipment, from one of your vendors, then comes on here and gets advise about the item or talks about how great it is, maybe a thread or 3 take off...everthings o.k. Maybe brags about a "kill" or whatever but we know the vehicles street driven. And thats cool? Then any vendor who ad's here should not be allowed to sell anything that puts a vehicle at risk of being non-compliant. If you can't discuss it, it shouldn't be for sale. Suppose I, as a member, visit a site and see these things? I mean, I've seen things that would make a sailor blush, but suppose I accidently see a test-pipe? I lose my mind, buy the pipe, ditch the ***and hit a roadside check and get fined? Its ultimately my fault, but I got to the ad thru THIS SITE. No *** delete pipes, cupped or not. No straight exhaust. And certainly no air filter swaps or CCV delete kits. Thats all emission related. Right? So in protecting yourselves and your revenue stream, your essentially exposing the members to all this merchandise, but alot of it can't be spoken about because its technically illegal? You can't really expect a group of truck owners to buy this nonsense. All your competition talks about these things. Maybe thats why your losing subscribers.
If you guys remember way back when it was ford-diesel.com...Jason got sued by ford motor company with Navistar as co-complainants. It was shortly after that when the name changed to thedieselstop.com So getting sued does have an affect on ones outlook on things.
In my case, I used to have a tool store and got sued. On the receipt it stated to use jack stands when using a floor jack. I was found not at fault, but it cost me a lot of sleep loss and 2500 to clear it up. After that I was really careful to give customers verbal safety info too; to the point regular customers told it to me first.
So maybe his “tightening of the rules” came from that; I don’t know for sure. If none of you have had a law suit slapped on you, count your blessings.
ya, I know

2004 VW Golf TDI - Automatic, 100 HP Diesel gets 42 MPG around town. XM Satellite Radio
2001 Monaco Knight - 265 HP Cummins gets 12.5 MPG towing the TDI
The site could COVER THEIR COLLECTIVE ARSES,, if they simply put an OFF ROAD ONLY forum in. Then any modifications for OFF ROAD/RACING use only could be discussed without any fear of emissions police coming and getting them... sheesh. But that was suggested too many times to Jason, I think some of the moderators on here just have way too much fun throwing their weight around! I also know some of the crap that goes on with the "Moderating" that goes on here,,,
As far as Jason getting sued, I understood from his posts it was simply because he was using the FORD name in the title, I was here then, went through the "Change" I have no idea WHY IH would have gotten involved and don't remember that they did. Jason was pretty up front about everything then I thought. I have wondered how this sight now gets by with using the FORD LOGO in the URL and has all the Superduty pictures in the header? Maybe they purchased the rights? Who knows, and who cares?
Find another site if your not happy, there are several out there, some brand new! Just ask around....

IIRC Jason had that from the get go, It stated the sight was NOT directly affiliated with Ford or Navistar...
Yet they still threatened him with a lawsuit if he didn't remove FORD from the name..

So the threat of a lawsuit was over the use of the word "Ford"? As in a trademark issue?
Not about talking about modding Ford trucks or International engines.
