I've tried searching but I cannot find it. I would like to post some pictures in the photo gallery but haven't figured it out. Can someone help?

How do I create a gallery here in the diesel website? Or are do you have to have it hosted elsewhere?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can post a photo or several in your gallery right here on TheDieselStop. I'm no expert either , but I've managed to post a few photos here.
First, scroll up to the top of this thread and notice the two different menu bars. On the top menu bar, click on the button for "photos". That gets you to the Photos section. Next you need to log in to the photo section. Use the same username and password you use for the forums on TheDieselStop. After you log in, then click on "My Gallery" then on "Upload Photos". Then follow your nose. Just be sure that any photo you upload is either a JPG or GIF format.
Then to link to that photo you can't just look at the photo and copy the URL. Instead you must right-click on the photo, then click on "properties", then copy the URL that ends in .jpg or .gif from the properties window.

Son of a gun it worked. I didn't work the first, but I didn't read the Smokey's instructions very well!!! Thanks to all you guys.

They should be no larger that 600 or so KB
[/ QUOTE ] The Diesel Stop gallery will not upload anything larger than 250KB for me. When I try to upload more I get a message saying I have exceeded the limit of 250kbs and to try again, but I always end up rescanning smaller and smaller portions of the original photo until it is less than 250kb,which makes for some interestingly bad photos, the originals of which are bad enough.
I couldn't log on... used my same name and password, no luck... I logged onto the site without any trouble but can't logon to the photo site??? any suggestions?
Edit...
So I went back and logged in with my "username" which is not the same as my "login name"... a little confusing...
When I am adjusting the size of a picture with my editing program there is box that tell's me how much memory in KB the picture is using.
600 KB seems to be the maximum for me.
If I take a 600 KB .JPG and animate it, then make it a .GIF I sometimes can't get it to load. Sometimes I can't even shrink it down enough to get it to load without getting the same message as you.
I believe that your problem is that you don't have much disc space left for any more pictures. Members are allowed 2 meg space. You jave used 1907.6k. So any additional pictures would have to be about 90K or less.

If you take that picture to any photo editor, you can resave it to a much lower resalution. I've taken most of mine to less than 100k and they look good.

The photos I used to post for members were 640x480 and I usually shot for 70-80K for that size. The bigger the file the longer it takes to download. But more people have faster connections that there were a few years ago. A photo larger than 1024x768 usually makes you scroll to view it. 800x600 is what I usually resize to nowadays. It fits well when you run a 1024x768 size desktop.

Dick , I have the same problem even when I delete all photos in the gallery and start anew. It may well be that I am working at too high of a resolution as Jimmy Dee has suggested.
BTW I just missed buying a 1941 or 46(not sure which) Ford ton and a half c/w factory Marmon Herrington 4wd (all appropriate labels in place) and a steel hydraulic dump body for $2200 CDN. Absolutely no rust on the body and only a couple of minor dings. Not running, but apparently was driven into the Quanset shed it was stored in for the last 5 years. While I was thinking about it somebody bought it for full price. DUH!
I have not actually uploaded real large images but I know that Super_Duty_John has and he evidently didn't have any problem. One issue that we have found is that some photo editing programs save images differently and effect the uploading/display process. Resaving that same image with another program usually fixes it though.
Some of his photos are 2448x1632 and are in excess of 1 meg in file size. So, I just don't know what to say.
On another note, you mentioned the '41 M+H truck. Too bad you missed it. They say : "Those who hesitate are lost" I looked at your profile under your username and thought it ironic at this particular time you had a total number of posts "1941".

Too bad you didn't get the truck. Not sure but I don't think it could have been a 1941 because the war was going on and no one was makeing anything but war material at that time.

No, I don't know about Canada, but in the USA they were still making civilian cars and trucks through the 1941 model year, and they even made some 1942 models. Pearl Harbour wasn't until December 1941 - well into the 1942 model year. My GrandPa bought a new 1942 Chevrolet in the fall of 1941, then drove it all during the war and until he was finally able to buy a post-war model in 1949.
Now, to remain on topic, what we need here is a photo of that old truck.
