Private Messages

Why does this happen? I try to send a private message to another member and I get a message that says that person is not a known menber when in fact we've been sending messages back and forth all week. But that's not the bad part . When I go back to my private message it's competely blank. My entire message has been erased. Gone! I type with one finger, very slowly and it makes me very mad that I have to re-type the whole message over again.

Also, if I forget to fill in the subject line, I get a message telling we cannot proceed because I did not "fill in all the required fields" and when I go back to fill in all the "required fields", again my entire message is gone .

So what gives? We only get one chance to get it right? Can't you guy's be a little more forgiving. The other day I had to re-type the same PM 4 times before I got it right. It would have been quicker to send a telegram or take a typing class. How about some help Jason?

Re: Private Messages

All that is a function of your web browser. I use Mozilla which lets you go back and forth on forms without losing what you typed in. Other browsers may not allow that.

Re: Private Messages

I'm pretty much in the same boat. But I have one advantage. I've been involved with computers for almost 50 years, and one thing I learned long, long ago is:

backup

backup

BACK UP! your work so you don't lose it and have to do it over again.

Any time you're looking at more than a few words of typing you've aganized and slaved over, always copy and paste it into a NotePad or Word or other word processing document BEFORE you mash any buttons that will go to a different screen. Then if you need it later, it's there waiting for you.

Re: Private Messages

Yep. I learned that the hard way several years ago while writing a long ebay ad in HTML. After about an hour of typing ebay went down and WHAM, I lost it all.

I now copy and paste to Word every few paragraphs just to be on the safe side.

Re: Private Messages

Better yet, I find it usefull to compose all lengthy posts and PM's in Word, and then just cut and paste to post. You can run a spell check on it that way first. Worse case though, always highlight and right click to copy before clicking submit.
