I haven't I don't think (ain't noticed it anyhow) but that's a stupid rule if such a rule exists,if you don't want to read profiles then skip them, nobody can have that much on their truck.I personally like reading profiles (or signatures or whatever) myself.

There is no formal stating of this rule but if you browse through some of the old posts in the News, Comments, and Suggestions forum, you can find where this is discussed (at some length).
Since there is no real way to tell if someone's signature is three lines (computer screen resolutions, ie, 800x600 or 1280x1024, display differently) there was a 'suggestion' that the limit be 75 characters for a signature.
Bill and Ben, if you are trying to shorten your signatures somewhat, you might try getting rid of the blank lines in your signature or putting stuff all on one line.
Of course now that I've said this, I'm sure that my signature is more than three lines on someone else's computer as it's fine on mine.

I think 3 lines is way too short for profile lengths, I agree that the profiles shouldn't be a paragraph long, but I think 5,6,7 lines is fine, as long as the person is describing thier truck, not rambling about personal or political beliefs or mottos or anything else. hey, if you don't wanna read someones profile, skip it, but if no ones else objects, profiles should be long enough to tell all about the persons truck. Then if there is a problem with someones particular profile, the administrators, or even other member should ask him to modify it.
this is just my opinion, I think it is a fair one.

Nope, never got an Email like that, but I have read it is the law. So, I just shortened mine. . .don't think anybody cared what kind of hub caps I have anyway.
The reason for the requested short profiles is a couple
-- they take up space on the server
-- the current format of the search engine will not differentiate between a post and the profile (ie: search on "shim" will give you every one who puts "shim" in their profile, not just the posts on "shim")
-- they increase the amount of space used to save posts
As a request from the originators of the site, I say we quietly comply and appreciate all the work they go through to make this forum available to us.
I will not usually put my sig up there if there is no reason for it.
Then again, it's just my 2¢

YES, there is a RULE on this website asking ALL members to limit their "Signatures" to a maximum of three lines. This was done for two reasons. First, to preserve resources on the server. Second, to keep the "Signatures" from getting out of hand.
PLEASE shorten your "Signature" if it is over three lines.
We also have different "Forums" for different topics. This "Thread" has nothing to do with "94-97 PowerStrokes" so it is being moved to the "News, Comments and Suggestions" forum. This is Jason's, (Website Owner), personal forum.

The rule is 3 lines at the internet standard resolution of 800x600. That's about 66 to 75 characters per line, not total. So figure about 200 characters or less total sig length, depending on which characters and how many spaces are included, and assuming no carriage returns. Then to double-check, set your resolution to 800x600 and look at a post that includes your current signature.
Using that rule and looking up in this thread, DaveBey's sig is 4 lines, but only because he included a carriage return on the first line after his e-mail address, which pushed the rest of the sig on to the 4th line which now reads: "& in the bed See my baby! 56,600 happy miles". Without that carriage return, Dave would have almost exactly 3 lines.
And dondiesel8's 4th line reads: "$20 EBV brake, manual TC control, 103K miles"
Ntix wound up with almost exactly 3 lines. Nothing flowed over to the 4th line, and that last parenthesis is just about in the last possible space on the third line on the screen when I look at it at 800x600. Good job, Ntix.
And Bill Boroskey, the guy that started this thread, has a sig that takes up 9 lines, including 2 blank lines. Yep, he should have received a friendly note from a moderator. And I guess he did.

I special-ordered it new and plan to drive it until it quits.
The reason this came about was that we had people listing every option off their window sticker along with all their mods. Some were exceeding 10 lines which looks really strange on a post with just a few lines. Just put in the good stuff, we don't need to know everything about you, your truck, your political affiliations, etc.
Look at mine, even the webmaster follows the rule. A good option is to list the major information about your truck with a link to your own home page or a photopoint album with pictures. Mine links to the Project Truck articles.
Don't get me wrong I dont want to step on any toes as I am a guest in someone elses house (Jason's). I have changed my profile alittle and this will be my first post that I leave the shortend version and I am going to shorten it even more when I am done here.
I do however have to say that I didnt see anywhere that it said anything about lenght. I have heard that lenght was discussed in a thread. Thats good but if you missed that thread you are out of the loop, espesially for new members.
To Jason. Where does it say anything. I looked In ABOUT, and on the profile page. Might I suggest a message on the profile/signature page to let people know about this. It is also hard to tell just how long it is because the box to type in is kinda cramped.
Again My MANY thanks to this web site and the people that make it possible. This is a great site I feel that I have made alot of friends here and I REALLY don't want to PI$$ anyone off.
Thanks respectively

Hi Rob I could'nt agree with you more. There comes a point when you have to draw a line. I realize my profile was too long and I believe I fixed it. After all I had the profile of a truck on there (besides my PSD) that wasnt even Diesel.
I dont have a problem with shortening my profile, But it would have been nice if it said somewere on the profle page about a 3 line limit.
Maybe we should come up with a standard abreviation code for some of them. Maybe check them off in a box kind of like the message icons. Just a thought.
What do the administrators think?
Bill
