PSD research

Wife looking at a larger horse trailer, possible 5th wheel type. I'm looking into a PSD. I'm thinking F350-4wd-4door. This truck will only be used as tow vehicle/load carrier. What I know is that they started in 1994. Are they the same engine today? Turbo or non? Any better years or years to stay away from? Trying to find info on evolution of F-diesels since '94.

Thanks for your time.

I once had money, now my wife has horses.

Re: PSD research

Howdy!! welcome to the best site for ford-diesel research. all PSDs are turbocharged, the long block has been largely unchanged since 94.5 but there have been running changes/improvements each year,as with any vehicle, look for a truck that has been well taken care of. check for proper cooling system maintainence, reasonable oil change intervals, and a general lack of abuse. then one of these trucks should haul those horses for 200-300,000 miles with proper care.

Re: PSD research

whd507- thanks for reply
It looks like the biggest difference is addition of the intercooler, 1997?
Seems like cooling would be an issue. Oil, tranny, turbo, etc.
I also thought that I would have to go crew cab to get 4 doors but it looks like a "super cab" is not just an extended cab but extended with the two quick doors in back, nice.
If I can get some time off may start doing a little test driving. Tks again. dave
