Question about "On and Off" topic threads

Along with the changes to the site, I've noticed another change, or it could be my imagination.

For a while, (ya, I'll admit it ) I was hitting "Notify Moderator" on all off topic threads started in the "Upgrades and Aftermarket - 6.0 Engine" forum. For a while it seemd to have been a help in calling attention much quicker to and allowing the moderators to move threads like tires, lifts, stereos, bumpers, Sat. radio etc. etc. to where they more appropriatly belonged.

HOwever, I've all but stopped after the last 2-3 weeks I've found myself running into threads I'd "notifyied" already in prior days/weeks. A few, very few were getting moved anymore and it didn't seem consistant unless, with the new changes there is much more latitude being given to that forum.

If that is the case and general, non-engine/drivetrain questions about "2003-2005 trucks with 6.0's" are now going to be allowed, could the Forum be re-titled more appropriatly?

I for one like to see only engine/drivetrain performance topics as it was, but understand that there are some cross-over topics and that categorizing topics differently now may be necessary.

So not cut through the ramble, I guess my question is, is the Upgrades and Aftermarket - 6.0 Engine forum being or been expanded to allow all general topics about trucks that have a 6.0 PSD? If so, I'll continue to "not" do any "civilian moderation" and just with "dash trim" and "best shocks" questions.

Re: Question about "On and Off" topic threads

Jim,

1. I took a whirlwind tour of the 6.0L U&A forum for the last 100 threads and cleaned up what was obvious, but since I'm not the main moderator for that forum I don't often do much there and like to defer to that moderator for the most part.

2. Keep mashing that "notify moderator" button when you think you see something that needs attention. Only thru the help of all the members here can TDS provide the services and information so TDS gets comments like THIS. We are no way 100% effective, but we do what we can to keep things on track.

3. I know of no changes in either policy or rules for anything except the "Other" or now as it's called the "Other Technical Questions" forum for the past few months.

Hope this answers some of your questions/concerns.

Larry M.

Re: Question about "On and Off" topic threads

Geez, I got caught up in the child play last night and didn't post what I intended too. Thanks for the clean-up.

Thank you Larry for the reply. I just wondered if maybe boundries were loosened some and I'm glad they have not been. I'll keep clicking and hopefully stay consistant with clicking the right ones. Please let me know if I'm getting click-crazy!!

So then what do you do if the Moderator is responding to a WAY off-topic thread like THIS??

I couldn't resist that one

Re: Question about "On and Off" topic threads

Just thought I'd bump this up to the top. I assume there's some "outage" so to speak and it'll get cleaned up once "full staff" is back.

Re: Question about "On and Off" topic threads

Super_Duty_John usually takes pretty good care of the 6.0L forums. He usually gets more complaints from working too hard than from not doing enough.

But I notice he hasn't posted in the last week, so maybe he's taking a few days off. We all do that now and then.

Re: Question about "On and Off" topic threads

I figured so. A few are getting moved around, but there's a lot left. Even a few that usually get locked or deleted. It's got to be one of the hardest ones to manage with all the crap that gets posted in there!

Yes, it can take quite a bit of time to "make the rounds" there.

The 94-97 forum is much more organized since the U&A type posts finally got their own forum there like the 6.0 and 7.3 forums already had. The combined 94-97 forum was running around 135 active posts for a 2 day period. That could run anywhere from 2-5 pages depending on an individual's forums preference settings and could consume a lot of time going down through them. Currently there are 62 active in the 94-97 General forum and 38 in the 94-97 U&A forum for the past two days. The 6.0 forums are almost the exact same numbers at the moment.
