The post NEEDS to be reopened! Alot of people who use this forum rely on the opinions and posts of other members to make alot of decisions. Many of them decisions involve alot of money and or time. If a member is being a lowlife and can't be trusted the other members MUST know about it. rdmeyer was probably just too trusting for todays society but if he is like me he would like to think everyone who uses this webpage is sincere and trustable. They are the scumbags. Maybe some of the smarter lowlifes will see this and overnight you a moneyorder and a big apology trying to keep ther name clean. While Jason is pondering this issue at least keep the thread open so other members can post there opinion on whether or not the names should be posted.

agreed-
I've had numerous dealings with part swapping, etc..
I was a little concerned when I had my rig up on blocks HOPING that the other fella was REALLY gonna overnight his 4" blocks & U-bolts...especially since I had already mailed him mine...
Everything worked out, all we spent (individually) was shipping...we both got what we wanted/needed, happy ending.
I understand that you are probably only 'out' a few bucks worth of materials and a moderate amount of your time...but the PRINCIPLE is key!
I'm sure that there is plenty of swapping/ buying/ selling that WE should know who not to deal with...we roll the dice regardless; having the opportunity to 'learn' from someone else's mistake, might save other members some grief...

This has been moved from the Other forum, where it was not relevant, to this forum, where it is. This is a matter that concerns the policy of the site, so it must reside here. Please keep all responses here and not in the Other forum. Thank you.
Re: RE-OPEN "Less Than Honest F-D.com Members" post
The problem I see is that we have no way of knowing who is in the right on things like this. I don't want the website to be named in a slander suit for example.
Re: RE-OPEN "Less Than Honest F-D.com Members" post
As many Post of mine that the moderators have deleted......
I will have to agree, This should stay closed. Another way to have gone about this would have been to publicly ask them for the restitution and NOT say * Do you guys (Fellow members of f-d .com) want me to name names *
It's a little late now, but you could have went to the correct forum and just posted ....."Hey so and so, How do you like the Gizmo I made for you" ....... That way they would have seen that you are trying to get their attention and they would have shown a little more courtesy towards you.
Anyway, I hope you get your money that is due to you, I also THANK you for your shared knowledge, thats somthing that is kind of hard to find around here lately. In the future I would always demand a Pre payment of some kind, you can always send the $ if they dont like the product you made for them.
I know thats not how it should be amoungst friends, but some people could care less about the time and effort into what you do.
I dont know what your options are now.

Don't know what it would take as far as server wise, but how about some type of feedback rating system? (Like on E Bay) That way if some one was trading, buying, or selling they could leave feedback for the other party. This would not leave a sole person to govern right from wrong, but the people that participate on this site. Dan

Re: RE-OPEN "Less Than Honest F-D.com Members" post
I can certainly understand Jason's stance on this.
However, I did something very similar to this awhile back.
My other hobby is photography and I had purchased and then found I didn't need a rather expensive Wisner 4x5 view camera. The camera was bought through a pretty well known small shop and when I decided I didn't need it I let them sell it on consignment.
After about six months I inquired about it and the owner assured me he had sold it and just needed to finish the paper work before sending me a check.
Over the next six months I made several other calls and email messages with similar result. Usually an excuse was offered but never a check.
Finally, after about a year--I posted a message on Usenet in the large format photography group with my side of the story, figuring it'd get back to the owner of this shop.
Guess what? Two days later a check arrived via FedEx. I posted a follow-up explaining the problem had be resolved and that was that.
It might not be the right thing to do, but sometimes the only way to resolve such a problem is to put someone's reputation on the line.
Re: RE-OPEN "Less Than Honest F-D.com Members" post
I used to buy a bunch of aftermarket items from a small shop in Hobe Sound, FL. I bought a set of full diamond plate aluminum running boards for my '97 and hated them after about 1 month. I had the owner of the shop sell them for me and ended up not getting a penny for them. He gave me some lame excuse that he gave them away because they were in the way and I didn't call. He was to call me when they sold. I was also in his shop buying things and he never mentioned it then.... They cost me about $400.00 new.
Moral, don't trust anyone! I spent Thousands of green with this idiot, typical fly by night detail/tint/aftermarket rented garage bay in strip mall guy, and he took me hook line and sinker.

I guess I'm going to have to come to this forum more often to see these posts before they are deleted. I ordered a rather expensive item from a member here and now I'm scared after reading this. I know most people are honest. I just hope the deleted post wasent about the deal I'm into.

Big Bully,,,I dont think you have anything to worry about, You said I ordered..I am sure if you ordered somthing from a sponsor of this sight,,,thats fine...I BELIEVE tho not positive,,the complaint was on an individual member selling somthing. I come to this sight every day...if you do that the "NEW" posts are not as hard to keep up with! Now...if I go away for a week...man,,there is some reading to do.

Re: RE-OPEN "Less Than Honest F-D.com Members" post
Couple of issues here.
Issue #1 -- disclosing members who you have had a bad dealing with. As I understand the forum rules, there is a prohibition on personal attacks. If you had a bad dealing with member JoeBlow and you aired all the dirty laundry here, wouldn't that be a personal attack? This is the main reason I think this idea will never fly.
Issue #2 -- security when purchasing items from unknown members of the site. Do as you would do with a valuable purchase from eBay, etc. -- use an escrow service. With these services (such as Iescrow.Com), you put up the money with the escrow service. The escrow service contacts the seller when they have cleared the funds. The seller ships the merchandise. After you have received it, inspected it and it is what you expect, the funds are released and forwarded to the seller. This way there are no suprises.
