That indicates the number of new replies since you last looked at that thread.

Re: red numbers

After you have signed in, the black numbers show the number of replies to a thread, and the red numbers show how many have been added to the thread since you last looked at that forum.

So 3(1) means there are 3 replies to a thread and one of those replies is new since you last looked at that thread. And when the system opens that thread for you, it will skip past all the replies it thinks you have already read and show the first reply you haven't read yet.

If you haven't signed in, there are no red numbers - because the system doesn't know who you are.

[/ QUOTE ] In the above; looked at that thread should read "logged in and opened that forum". The system assumes that you have read every thread in every forum that you enter, even if you didn't read it. It is "old news".

Well, yeah. The system assumes when you open a forum, that you finish looking at all the threads you want to look at before you exit the system. I only look at a few threads in each forum, but the system assumes I looked at all of them I wanted to when I log out. If I log out before I finish a forum, then the system won't know that and assumes I didn't care about all the threads I didn't look at. And that happens sometimes when I have to shut down and go to town before I've finished a forum.

Re: red numbers

Is there a timeout also? I went on vacation last month, I thought there would be pages and pages of red numbers when I got back. There was only a couple of pages.
