Practice on this one.
Look at the top of this message. You'll see 4 little icons (buttons).
1. profile
2. e-mail address
3. edit/delete message
4. reply with quote
Folks without an e-mail address in their profile will have only 3 buttons at the top of their posts.
If you click on that button on the right, that means you want to reply to the message and have the full message quoted.
But use with courtesy. Don't just allow all the quoted words to be quoted. Edit the quote to get rid of the words or paragraphs that you don't need to quote - or don't want to quote. But be careful not to delete any of the UBB code at the first or end of the quote - including the brackets [ and ].

But it's easy to combine your way with the fancy way.
Do it your way. Then when you're done, enclose the quoted text in UBB code. Like this:
I'll use braces instead of brackets for this example, because if I use the brackets, then you won't see the code. But when you do it, replace the following braces {} with brackets [] and it'll work.
{QUOTE}Not as fancy as the other way, but it does the trick and ....{/QUOTE}
Now, when I replace the braces with brackets, here's what you see:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Not as fancy as the other way, but it does the trick and ....<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
So the UBB code for turning pasted text into a quote is pretty simple. Just the word quote before and after the quoted text, and both times enclosed in brackets, and the last one includes a slash mark before the word quote.
Heck, even Shawn the Aggie can do it!

An alternative that works for me is to left-click-and-drag to highlight the text that I want to quote, do a right-click, and select <<copy>>.
Moments later when I'm in the reply window, I right-click and select <<paste>>. I usually put in the <<>> to offset the quote.
Not as fancy as the other way, but it does the trick and it does prevent me from having to remove the unnecessary text from the quote, resulting in about my only successful effort to be a good citizen.
