Re: The roll of the Moderator

Only thing I have to say on the subject is:

THE MODERATORS ARE DOING A SH** HOT JOB.

Get off their bones and let them enjoy what they do. Without them this site woud not be what it is today.

Hi Jack,

Yes, it is a little controlling. That's exactly what the WebMaster has asked his moderators to do.

Apparently you haven't read the WebMaster's current policy on politics and guns topics in the Other forum. We can continue to have these topics, but within limits. He would like no more than one or two active threads concerning politics on the first page of the other forum. And no more than one or two active threads concerning guns on the first page of the Other forum. And he expects his moderators to enforce that policy.

If you look now, you will find two threads related to politics and two others related to gun topics. All four of those topics were started by administrators. Those are the only ones that will be open until either they fall off the first page, or they are closed by the Webmaster or a moderator.

The topics are very general. If you want to talk guns or other politics, those are the threads to do it in. If other topics are started on those general subject areas while there are still two open topic threads on the first page, the moderators will copy those new threads into an existing topic thread and delete the new topic.

You may not agree with that policy, but that is the policy. Of course, that policy is subject to change. When and if the Webmaster changes the policy, I'm sure he'll give the moderators new instructions. In the meantime we will enforce the current policy.

I apologize if that sounds dictatorial or "controlling". I was never one for weasle-wording. I don't make the policy. But I'm trying to make a smooth transition to implement that policy, and I'd like for you to help me do it.

O.K.?

Re: The roll of the Moderator

I'll be in every so often to check up on things but nothing like before. Burn out has hit hard so when I stop by all I'm checking for are posts by people I know and respect, not all the new posts that seem to re run old hashed over topics.

Just got wound up over the grief the moderators and administrators are getting. As far as I'm concerened they are doing a extremly good job keeping thing running smothly. And I have the right to speak on this matter as I'm one of the biggest offenders

Re: The roll of the Moderator

Hey Smokey--Looks like the fellow fell down got turned around and found the front door and wants to shut every thing down except what he wants. I'm all for moderators wearing two or three hats. Have noticed in other forums where mods. have helped people find items much faster due to the fact that "yall" read more than we have time to. I also like most of the mods. post some are quite humorous. Heck I've been admonished and rightfully so. But that is water under the bridge. May get one for this post- don't know.(ka sa rah sa rah- what ever will be will be ). Looks like we all need to lighten up a touch! P.S. Smokey my sig. on this size screen is three lines- an the skinny one four. and on the wider ones two. I took an average and guess this is "A-oook" LOVE THE SITE AND THE MODERATORS HAVE A JOB TO DO ! If it were not for them the site would degenerate into nothingness!( Good day folks

Re: The roll of the Moderator

JJ:

Welcome back! Good to see your login gracing the site again!

On the matter at hand, no one should be tossed off the site for being a pain. I have to support that policy or I would have been tossed long ago!

I don't think fyoung is a pain, though. He has a lot to contribute to our overall understanding of diesels. I am thinking of the steps he went through to nail down what was happening with the US Gear exhaust brake. Very interesting and useful. I don't agree with him on some things, like loading, but I see this as just one more thing I don't necessarily agree with him on. After all, it is just his opinion about how things should be run.

I think the powers-that-be consider his opinion just like they consider all ours, and give no greater importance to Frederick's than they do to anyone else's. I don't think we want to start naming names and jumping on people for the recent dust-up on the structure of the Other forum. Input was made, but the Webmaster considers lots of things besides individual input, so in the end, no matter who started things, Jason is the final word. Good enough for me.

If someone's purpose is to simply be rude or create turmoil, then they are outta line and members should call that to the offender's attention. After all, this site is mostly self-governing (recent history excluded! ). If someone really gets out of line, the Moderators will handle it. I don't think Frederick's intent is to be rude or stir up trouble for the sake of fun. He seems genuinely concerned. I take his comments in that manner.

I just wanted to add a different perspective on the whole issue of website control. And control is needed. Otherwise, I just might turn you all into liberals!!

Re: The roll of the Moderator

This is rather simple.

It's Jason's ball game. He controls what the moderators do. The moderators control what you do.

I like using the serenity prayer to deal with the one percenters. You know, the people who just exist and do not contribute anything productive.

I'll break it down for the unserene.

"GOD(remove for the agnostics), Grant me the serenity to ACCEPT the things I CANNOT CHANGE. The power to change the thing I CAN.
And the WISDOM to KNOW THE DIFFERENCE."

There are alot of one percenters still trying to do all of the changing. Wisdom tells me some people and ideas will never change, and I accept it.

Move on people, this isn't worth the hard memory it's taking up!

Spaceace, it looks like your prayer has been granted and wisdom conferred. You are right - I vote for moving on to other matters.

Hi Troutly -

I don't have one of those great big dictionaries, and "shagadellic" is not in my ordinary college dictionary. And I can't tell from the context what it means.

So I'm guessing it has something to do with police work?

Re: The roll of the Moderator

It is a movie reference, to "Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me". Shagadellic is a term showing extreme approval and admiration. It means you are deeply cool and doing a good job. Not bad for a old guy with a heart condition, wot? Brits out there might cringe at the term "shag", but on this side of the pond, to be called "shagadellic" is a pretty good thing.

Yeah, baby!

Re: The roll of the Moderator

I really don't keep up on the "politics" on this site, I mostly use this website for what it was meant for, technical help with my truck. This is Jason's site he invented it, and brought to where it is today. I respect the "Volunteers" who help him with this site everyday. I would like to take a moment to thank each of them for taking time to assist Jason with this site and us with our problems and questions.

P.S. Isn't this supposed to be A FUN place

Re: The roll of the Moderator

I have been watching more than talking lately, but I was suprised to see this thread was even opened for discussion. This could have been started with a little more class and a little less of a personal attack, or not at all.

The moderators have a job to do but also should be allowed to participate without being treated like the redheaded stepchild.

There are many discussions on this site I choose not to read, but I don't get offended by the fact that others want to participate. This is a great place to drop by and engage in topics of intrest. Credit for this is Jason's and the moderators who keep it on keel.

This new whining thing is the only disturbing aspect of this site for me. If Jason is content, the rest of us can control our own choices with the little black x at the top of the box.

Pitpass, THIS IS A FUN PLACE!

You can look at the "technical" part of this website as its meat and potatoes and the "guns, politics and moderators responsibilities" as its seasoning!

Sort of fun having an area to go in the site to get a little divergence as long as we don't take the subjects to seriously! Not to condemn someone elses view but to understand it a bit better.

Moderators, you are doing great! Keep it up, it keeps me coming back often. And isn't that one of the objectives of the site?

Re: The roll of the Moderator

I also feel the moderators are doing a fine job. I think that they have the right to post their opinions on subjects as any other member. They seem to keep a firm hand on the forums without letting anything get way out of hand. When you have this many members on a site you'll have many different opinions. That is one of the things that makes this site so popular, you get to hear other opinions on subjects and it causes you to think. I wouldn't want anyone to be muzzled and not be able to state their point of view.
One person shouldn't have the right to stifle the rest of the members just because he doesn't like posts contrary to his views. This country has freedom of speech as one of its' main virtues. Why shouldn't we have it here? I think the concessions Jason made after some consideration to the Other forum will work just great and I appreciate him doing what he did.
Again I just wanted to say good job Moderators and keep it up and don't let 1 person get to you.
