Saved favorite threads?

Where did they go and is there anyway to get them back? I had a bunch of info that is lost. I guess I will have to spend my time over at CompD, or Pnation if this is the case.

I'm looking for information on how to recover Saved Threads too. Was sick97psd1's question answered somewhere else? Lots of info lost at this time...

Also, is it possible to save new threads? If so, how?

on edit... I saw under the Thread Tools tab the option to "Subscribe to this thread." Is this the same as "Watching" used to be?

Thanks!

They were asking about favorite threads, not private messages.

Favorite threads are still available, just under a different name. Go into "my account" down on the left side you can "list subscriptions/view all" Everything is still there.

If you want to save something you go to the top of any thread and use "thread tools" and then"subscribe to this thread"

Yes, but any favorite threads saved are also still on the old site. Here's the link to that. ---> TheDieselStop.Com Forums - Powered by UBB.threads™

So if you have any saved favorite threads, you can at least access them, and possibly save a list of post #'s to search for on the new site, then re-subscribe to them.

Rick, You might try editing the url of your IE favorites (assuming there's enough info such as the post # in them). Check the url of a post here and make the ones for your favorites look like that, substituting whatever it takes to make them point to the current thread. I know it's not a slam dunk, but may be worth the effort.

Kevin, You don't have to go through all that, they are already here as subscribed threads. I had 113 "favorites" that transfered over on their own. Go look at your subscriptions.

Rodney,

I only had a couple of "watched threads" on the old system, and I'm pretty sure they didn't come over, but that's no big deal.

I was just trying to suggest some methods to recover them for those who may not have been so fortunate and wanted them back.

Rick definitely has a problem with his old IE favorites linked to old threads now being redirected to the home page.

Thanks
Kevin

Rick,

Looks like you're right about post numbers (they apparently no longer exist), but you could edit your favorites to point to the OLD TDS site and retrieve the information, or maybe search on thread title to find them here.

Here's a what a favorites url to the Little Secrets thread on OLD TDS looks like (underscores added so it shows up as text)

h_t_t_p://forums.thedieselstop.com/forums.old/_ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=120542#Post120 542

I think if you added the "/forums.old/" part to your urls, they should take you to the threads in OLD TDS.

Here's a url (again with added underscores) to the same thread on the current forums.

h_t_t_p://w_w_w.thedieselstop.com/forums/f14/new-little-secrets-thru-07-30-05-a-14912/

Not sure what the last few numbers mean, but they aren't the same as the old post #.

Don't know what the easiest solution for you would be.

Looks confusing,,,

speaking of confusing, some of the threads I saved in IE open to the new forum home page , & some of them open to the old thread , in the new format???????

Then you have things like Pedal Mod ,,that show up in olld format?

Go figure...

I'll have to agree about it being confusing that some open to the new forum home page and some opening to the thread. Especially if you saved them from the old format. Weird!!

Can you post a couple of the urls of the IE favorites where that happens? (Copy them out of the box that pops up when you right click the favorite and select properties). That might shed some light on what's going on. Maybe one of the Admins who understands the forum software better might be able to help out.

Either way, you'd have to actually edit the url within the IE favorite to get the ones that don't act right to point to the right place.

You got me Rick. I can't even reconstruct the search using the words "armature plate" from the url of your first link in the old forum. Post # doesn't come up with anything either. Your last one, if you insert ".old" after "/forums.thedieselstop.com/forums" brings up the post in the old forums. Must have something to do with the first url being the result of a search and the second a direct link to a post that was browsed into. [insert headache icon here] (oh here it is)

The only thing I know for sure is that your second link works because the url to articles and other non-forum pages remained the same.

Sorry I can't help more. You may be out of luck.

Kevin
