THANKFULLY! Someelse has noticed this, as it's been a real pain for me as well Bob.
Exactly as you say, we know one another by username, not number, yet there is no area for typing in the username..only number (which we have no idea). I would think if Jason could tell, he would find this part of the site (search and typing in number) is used very little, as how many of us can remember one anothers number. Like you Bob, I have no idea what my number is...unless I read one of my own posts to find out!

Until Jason gets around to adjusting the search options, I have found a method of working around searching each and every forum for a particular user's posts.
Let's say I was writing a book entitled "Riley's Words of Wisdom," and I needed to see some of Bob Riley's posts to pull quotations from.
I would search a forum (any forum, doesn't matter) for Bob Riley, select any one of his posts, and once there, click on the "My Profile" icon that looks like a rolodex card (the first one). Once Bob's profile is displayed, I would click the link "VIEW RECENT POSTS". The 50 most recent of Bob's posts covering ALL forums will show up.
Believe me, this process is much quicker than the words that I used to describe it.
And forgive me, if this process was already known to you.
I have also found this method useful to keep track of my own posts... ...to find out if anyone has responded with helpful advice to problems I have posted questions about. Since I have so many problems, and since this board is so active, it is easy to loose track of what forum that I posted on, and where to watch for responses.
Email notification doesn't work if one didn't start the thread, so I simply find any one of my posts, click the "My Profile" Icon (not the "My Profile" text), and then click "View Recent Posts." Lo and Behold, threads that I had completely forgotten about pop up, along with responses that I never caught before.
Interestingly enough, the "My Profile" text that is always available at the header of every forum page does NOT offer a link to "View Recent Posts." But the "My Profile" Icon link in the header of an individual's post does offer a link to "View Recent Posts."
Gotta go now, back to writing chapter 3,603 of this seminal work: "Riley's Words of Wisdom." He has a lot of posts to cull from.

Bob and all I hate to be the barer of bad news. If I remember right not to long ago Jason addressed this and it is the way the this version of INFOPOP 6.02 is setup. Unless someone comes up with a backdoor way around this we are stuck with it. INFOPOP will have to make an upgrade before we can get a change.I agree this is the only major drawback to the new system that I can see.
We are much faster and I love the private messages to . IMHO I feel the benifits that we take for granted out weigh this downside though.
If I am wrong Jason will let us know before long or if someone else knows different jumpin 'cause you know me and my charter membersnip inthe CRS association
Take care all,

Jason,
This doesn't make sense to me. We know each other by user names, not numbers. I don't even know my own number, much less anyone elses. Can we change that to search by the user name? If I know a person made a post I am trying to find, I have to first search the forums to find any of his posts to get his user number.
Seems a little more difficult.
Bob

Ed,
No doubt it's much better in the whole. I never thought of that being part of the UBB. They need to fix that. We can't be the only board that doesn't care for that search method.
Robyn, Do I get Royalties ?
Take care.

Yep, it's the UBB software that changed. It may be possible to hack the program to "customize" it to use a different search mechanism, but just about the time you had it tested and debugged there would be a brand new upgrade to UBB that would wipe out all your neat programming tricks.
One of the problems of the UBB system designers is to decide which features we want most. For example, the new version of UBB lets us pick a different Publicly Displayed Name than our user name. (Look in your own profile to change yours). This is great, because Jason need not now receive tons of e-mails asking to have a username changed. Regardless of your username, you can now choose a different Publicly Displayed Name. For example, JoeV10 finally got smart and his username is still JoeV10, but his Publicly Displayed Name is now JoePSD. So if we could search by username, and you searched for JoePSD, you wouldn't get any hits. Because JoePSD's username is JoeV10.
Anyhow, don't look for the search on member number to change anytime soon. Jason learned several versions ago that hacking UBB is not worth the effort. Perhaps learn from Sibi "Robyn" how to better use what we've got.
And speaking of Publicly Displayed Names - how many folks know that Robyn is not Robyn? Robyn is Sibi. Or rather the Publicly Displayed Name of Robyn is for a guy named Sibi whose wife is named Robyn. Yeah, it confuses me too. BTW, Sibi is pronounced seabee, or in redneck country it's C.B.
