Ahh, in case no one noticed, Compaq hasn't existed since May of 2002. The Compaq name is now a brand of HP desktops and notebooks. All servers, including ProLiant, Integrity, and 9000, are HP.
BTW, if the 4GB address space limit is a problem, check out the Integrity rx1600. If your OS, DB and app software will run on Itanium, it may be just the ticket.

Bring back the search asap. I need it!
Seems like a great forum here with lots of info. I sure wish I could search for it so I dont have to ask "OLD"/common questions.
Best regards.

Don't let this stop you from asking the question if you need the info ... I would just state in the post that you couldn't search and members will understand that and we'll all just carry on till this search thing is straightened out. As a start depending on the subject you might glance thru the "little secrets" link that is below my name. It's not all inclusive, but has a lot of good basic info in it.
Also, while not as good I think the archive search function is still operative and might be worth a try to at least frame whatever post you might want to make better.

Thx for the encouragement/quidance etc. Dunno what yuo mean about the archive search function .. as I do not see any. Gotta get to a meeting anyways. I'll have to check out the little secrets. BTW ... I hail from VA right now too. LMK if you want to take me for a spin in our spare time .. especially if yuo got some PSDT power. If I can fix my supra this weekend ... I'll give you a little ride too ... if I can find time.
Rick at Infopop made the changes to the server. I've turned regular searching back on now. It seems to be pretty quick. If this works, I'll turn back on the recent posts feature tomorrow.
Seems to work great. I really like the post preview option. Only question is why can't we search unless we are logged in? I do most my research without logging in. I would log in but when I have a quick question that I do a search for I don't want all the Red colored posts that I haven't read to change color the next time I log in-if that makes any sense.
It would be very helpful if the post id number was a searchable field. Then when links were broken as forums were moved to the archive, you could read the post id number from your busted link and search for that number in the archive. Just a suggestion.

I agree Larry, but it takes some major server iron to keep a database that large online and fully searchable for this many simultaneous users. The current ones are both dual-processor machines maxed out on memory and drive space. They aren't nearly powerful to do that. I guess I feel that as long as the info is there and searchable in some format, that's better than bring the site to its knees when someone is browsing/searching messages that are a couple of years old.

Is there a way for any users to donate hardware? I go through quite a bit [though admittedly not as much now as in the past when it was my primary hobby] and I have contributed, over the years, to several sites as well as to several friends.
Also, you might consider setting up a "contributor" program using paypal. I think there are a good number of us that would toss a few bucks your way (you can have a contributor tag or a custom title, etc. for those folks as a reward) to try to offset some of your costs and assist in purchasing site-support hardware. It's pretty simple to do: 1. craft a short policy statement on the usage policy for contributions; 2. set up paypal account; 3. everyone who contributes supplies their user name, etc. for verification; 4. accept donations as small as $5 or $10; 5. Offer a custom title or some other simple reward or distinction to those who contribute.
I love this site and visit literally every day. It would be a pleasure to help support it.

I see the search function is back on (located in the login bar at the top of the screen for those of you who still haven't noticed it yet), but I just tried it, and I'm getting posts with no relation to the search topic or search wording whatsoever. It's fast, but not related to what I typed in for my search.
Can a Moderator check into this?
OK, I just tried again. For example, I searched for AFE Stage 2 - got a bunch of posts, but nothing related to it or in bold letters in any of the posts. Then tried Intake , and the search function seemed to work ok. So it appears to still have some glitches.

The "2" was probably throwing things off. It was finding all posts with "2" in them, quite a few I would think.

I suspect that is correct since I've also noticed that the archives search function doesn't really care for something with numbers in it and gives some very interesting search results when you put something with a number in it.
I'm still finding that the new search function doesn't seem to be working very well in the current forums. I've tried quite a few different topics over the last few days, and seem to get non-related threads 90% of the time.
I've used the search function plenty in the past, and this new version just doesn't seem to be pulling up relevent posts like the last version did. It used to pull up a post with the words or phrases in bold, now it seems to be pulling up posts without the words or phrases I type in, so of course, no bold words.
Has anyone else been experiencing this?
In search parameters I wanted Headache Racks, only searching in subject line. The search brought up any thing with "rack" in it. So anything with track, bracket etc also came up.
