Should the IDI forums be combined??

Personally, I see no reason to have two separate IDI forums. The differences between the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI are so few that they do not need a forum for each. Plus it's the same guys posting in both forums anyway. What is your opinion on the subject???

Yes or No??

Heath

I voted yes

It seems that us IDI guys are all pretty much the same and have the same problems/question. There are a few differences like you say but since we are all "old school" It shouldn't matter. Just my 2cents

I voted no....... my reason is when a post is in the 6.9 or 7.3 forums at least we have a 75% chance the owner has posted his request for help/advice in the right place.

I work on FTE also and they have them combined....... continually having to search a posters profile for a truck description gets very annoying and wastes time of those willing to offer assistance.

If the forums are combined then it should be mandatory that an up to date signature with vehicle(s) info be shown and reference to the exact one when posting questions/info.

Engines are not the only criteria for the 2 forums...... there are numerous body, electrical, fuel and other system differences to take into consideration too.

My 1.786 cents CDN........

No here too for the same reasons, plus I never found it that much of a challenge to click from one forum to the other.

It seems to work fine on "the other site". Woops.

None of the differences between trucks go along motor lines. Not glow plug systems (1987), not ZF5 vs 4 speed (1987), not C6 vs E4OD(1989).

In other words you cannot conclude anything about the truck solely based on what engine it has.

Thanks for the input and opinions.

It's interesting that at this point, over 130 people have viewed this thread, but less than 25 have actually voted.

I was one of the 130 who looked. I didn't vote because their are advantages to having the forums both ways. But since it has to be one way or the other I voted to combine. The reason I voted that way is because if someone asks a question on a 6.9 I think their would be a better chance of getting more opinions if the forums were combined.

Wow! What a great idea to move this from the IDI section where the opinions of those who use and post in the IDI forums won't see it, read it, or vote.

You mods are killing me. It was not a question or a suggestion directed towards you or this site as a group, but specifically to the users of the IDI forums.

I just saw that this topic has been moved to the News,Comments, and Suggestions section of the forum. I think this topic should be stickied to the top of the 6.9 and 7.3 forums for awhile so more people can express their opinions.

Thumbs up

I voted YES! Sooner the better.

There is A LOT more in COMMON with these (2) engine series than there are differences.

It would be MUCH more beneficial to the Members to use (1) forum that rather hoping, skipping and jumping around all over the forums to find an answer to an issue.

BTW, I'm a very seasoned veteran of car/truck forums and have owned/administered/moderated several myself.

Some car/truck website's get absolutely crazy with the huge number of forums in use. It get's to be a real PITA for Members to find stuff.

After all, these forums exist for the MEMBERS. They need to be user friendly FOR the Members and not just easy for the Moderators to control.
