The only reason i voted no. There are alot of people who start out new with diesels. The engine makes little to no sense to them and they quickly find themselves in trouble. the 6.9l diesel has enough differences to really complex a non diesel mechanics mind. books available leave out lots of details that are needed to fix the engine properly and possibly damage it completely. i found the help i needed here after searching the internet and buying books for almost a month. Imagine combining the IDI forums and someone lost or frustrated from endless and fruitless searches coming here. Right now a post i made months ago is burried in the 6.9l forum imagine how much more that post would be burried in a combined forum. If the site is here to help diesel fans and owners fix, experiment, and modify there diesels then why clutter up two forums by combining them? This is the only site that has a clear path to 6.9l diesels. there are still alot of them in circulation and very little resources or information.
let me list some differences that really make a headache worse. caps and hoses for the injectors are different in size and length and diameter on 6.9l and 7.3l and newer 7.3l diesels and on each the hoses need to be exact lengths due to pulse timing. yes it will run and possibly not leak if you change them all but it will not run correctly. placement of parts bolted on the 6.9l diesel differ and it is frustrating when even the book your reading tells you the wrong location of the thermostat or fails to mention that diesels take a different type and this type depends on year. this also differs on the 7.3l diesel.
just one last thing 6.9l diesel engines run great and you can get more out of them then many let on to believe but if your going green dont listen to an artical on 7.3l diesels. Doing a conversion on a 6.9l or older 7.3l diesel can damage your fuel system. newer diesels are made to run on biodiesel, svo, wvo, canola etc. the seals and hoses on older diesels deteriorate quickly and leak or blow when biodiesel fuels are used.
please keep the 6.9l separate from 7.3l diesels. some articles that are great for 7.3l diesels can kill a good 6.9l diesel or discourage a new old diesel owner from even trying to fix, experiment, and modify there truck. I firmly believe that an IDI combined forum would have deterred me from using or joining this site. the fact there was a 6.9l diesel topic in your forums was the sole reason i joined. If kept i will continue to post anything i find helpful for 6.9l diesel owners. just because something is old borderline vintage does not mean it should be forgotten or thrown in a dusty corner. my diesel has 80,000 miles on it and everyone on the net had pretty much forgotten that old diesel except for TheDieselStop.com. You are to forums what Denis Carpenter is to parts. these days that is something worth mentioning in my book.
Please keep the 6.9l IDI forum separate one day it will be nostalgic too many cool things in the engine world have been forgotten already. long after i am gone there will be a 6.9l diesel dieseling somewhere and hopefully someone will still be asking or answering a question about it or another 6.9l IDI in its own forum thread.
the vote is less than fair the ratio of 7.3l owners to 6.9l owners is about the same as the totals now if they never owned a 6.9l diesel they have no idea how frustrating finding help on one can be.

Reason: forgot to mention vote ratio.
i voted no. Since I'm less then expert on this engine,,it helps to know I have the correct engine type "narrowed down" and won't have to study for 2 yrs to seperate my engine from another.

I'd vote to combine. I've owned 6.9L's and 7.3L idi's, they're both pretty close to the same as far as the issues that I've had. I'd like the consolidation part as I don't have fast internet and would love to be able to stay in one forum. I agree that a good signature should be suggested.

I vote no. As you can see I am an occasional, but recurrent visitor of these threads. It's not only the engine, but the truck that comes along with it that makes the difference for me. It's nice to know you can post a question and get an answer from the few really knowledgeable 6.9'ers that faithfully patrol this forum. Combining with the 7.3 forum will bring a lot more inaccurate information to the table for people running the 6.9 IMHO. Thanks for the great site!
