Signatures

What is the acceptable length for signatures?

I have notices most are a line or two...maybe three,
but some go as many as 40 lines.

Seems like it's over doing things a bit.

Heck put in what you want, it's not like a few lines is eating up bandwidth.

Re: Signatures

I'm stripping as many upgrades as possible of my F-350 so I can put her on the market therefore my sig went on a pretty drastic diet today.

Maybe Jason or one of the mods will donate my extra sig space that I have no use for to Barrett for use for his SD or Rachel's Excursion.

Re: Signatures

I get tired of the long signatures and feel it takes away from the important information in the forum. Two to three lines is ok but when you get a few postings from a MEGA signature user, it makes a thread a lot longer than it needs to be and harder to read because of all the scrolling. Read a reply..scroll....read a reply...and so on instead of being able to read a few replies and then scroll.

I just realized I could turn off the signature viewing for all posts in the forum view settings.

Which, as has been pointed out every time this comes up, is a double-edged sword.

Quite often while reading somebody's post, it's beneficial to glance down at their sig to see what they have - it often puts info into perspective.

Turning sigs off completely removes the annoying 15 line "look at me" sigs, but it also removes those that are shorter, to the point, and less obstrusive.

And to add to that, it also removes the potential available information that a reader of a post might be asking themselves and subsequently have to make another post asking for example, what year truck the person has that is already there in their signature but the reader does not see it because they have signatures turned off.

Extra long signatures are distractive. Sometimes someone will edit their signature to remove some info and in the process leave a whole bunch of extra carriage returns at the bottom of their signature which will only create a wide signature with a big open space after what they didn't edit out. I edit them to close them up a bit when I run across one like that which is not too too often.

Dick

Re: Signatures

I have found that signatures are quite useful. On more than one occasion I have come accross something in a signature that interests me, I PM the user and find out more information. I don't mind the signatures...

Re: Signatures

HEDS this im not responding to your post, just thread in general.

I usually dont get to wrapped up in the "your sigs too long" threads, but hey mines a long sig so what the hay. First off i like to recognize the products/ people that make my truck go. Yes there is probably some trimming that could be done to my sig to shorten it some but its not gonna happen. When i post about a particular subject i like people to be able to see what ive done to my truck that way if they have ?'s about something ive done i can help and or voice my opinion about a product ive tried and ran. I think its kinda funny when people list every aftermarket product that theyve ever bought for theyre truck, but hey they're proud of the truck so whats the big deal .

There is alot of things about this site/ forum i dont like, but there is far to much info to not come back soo i shut up and read. My thoughts are if ya dont like it no ones forcing you to come back

Re: Signatures

The post is about signature length and what should be OK. I thought about 3 line is plenty. If more information detailed information is needed, I think it would be better to put it elsewhere, like in a detailed profile. If you consider the signatures to be frosting on the cake, how much frosting ruins the cake? I wish there was a way to get abreviated signatures or they only appear once in a post by default. I know you can choose not to have a sig added to a post.
