Please cut the sigs to less characters or less lines.
People can post a link in the sigs to mods & upgrades.
I don't care that you and your wife really enjoy the DVD screens or the fuzzy dice hanging in your mirror. A signature should be quick and to the point, not a drawn out epic log of your oil change analysis.

I'm off to start a petition.

look at this example. This is rediculous

And to add to that, it also removes the potential available information that a reader of a post might be asking themselves and subsequently have to make another post asking for example, what year truck the person has that is already there in their signature but the reader does not see it because they have signatures turned off.

Extra long signatures are distractive. Sometimes someone will edit their signature to remove some info and in the process leave a whole bunch of extra carriage returns at the bottom of their signature which will only create a wide signature with a big open space after what they didn't edit out. I edit them to close them up a bit when I run across one like that which is not too too often.

I'm an admin over at http://www.advrider.com and the way we handle the obnoxious long sig thing is to set the forum software to only show a member's sig once per thread page. So if a long sigger posts multiple times in the same thread, other users don't have to have it drilled into their psyche over & over, yet are able to see it at least once, if they don't have their user options set to not see them at all. Works pretty good that way.

There is a UBB hack for once per Page but I would have to go find it. I did that at the Paintball site I admin'd. Worked pretty well. It should be a sticky at the UBB users board. It was.

I agree that signatures with the Users truck specifications and list of Accessories often free's that user to not have to descibe his set up in each and every post he asks a question. And allows people to find others with items they are interested in to ask direct questions.

But I also try and use my signature only once per thread. If I can remember to turn it off each time I add to that thread. Most times I do. It should be standard "Netiquette" to turn it off after the first post in the thread. If everyone would just do that then things would be fine.

Next time you see it hit the NOTIFY MODERATOR button and we can take care of it. At this time there is no way to search the signatures that I know of.
