Site Slowness

Jason,
I know that the phone line is affecting the site speed but I was wondering if the size of the forum might be having an effect as well. I have noticed that the page that lists the topics is slower to display than the messages. I was wondering if all of the pruning and sorting it is doing on the large forums may slow the site down when there are lots of users? It seems to me that the database would be pretty busy going through thousands of messages each time someone goes back to the message list.

Re: Site Slowness

Check out www.hometheaterforum.com

They have 4x the users, 4x the posts (before the crash at least), and the allow pics to be placed inline. Their box isn't as powerful as fd.com is. It is definitely the link between the backbone and the computer.

Try a "tracert www.ford-diesel.com" when in a dos prompt and you will see a huge lag between sprintlink and pounder (fd.com's box)

Re: Site Slowness

For what it's worth, the tweaks Jason's ISP or the line provider did last week have helped a lot. I haven't run into any extreme slowness in quite a few days.
