Re: slow...slow....slow...Can't open any posts??

Start with the most obvious. Make sure you're logged into the site. Check your hard-drive for errors by running scandisk.

No errors, or errors but repaired and still can't open new threads?

Delete history and cache. In IE, go to tools, internet options, click on delete files (this could take several minutes) also click on clear history. Choose OK. Reboot and see what happens. If you stil have trouble, go back into tools and delete your cookies and reboot.

Good luck

Re: slow...slow....slow...Can't open any posts??

I've seen the site slow down occasionally, but never like you are describing. I need to go by the office this week and reboot both servers anyway. They've been up for over 5-months now without a reboot. Linux is good about having long uptimes, but a reboot every few months seems to keep things running up to speed.

We've also gained a lot of users in the last few months. We averaged about 1000 posts per day up until a few months ago. We're now up to nearly 2000 per day (1704 today, and Sunday is a slower day).

I was able to get by last year without a server upgrade, the first time in four years that we didn't have to purchase a bigger server, I just maxed out the memory in both. I suspect we'll be buying one later this year though. The web server is running good, it's the database server that is getting slammed lately. It has two 933 Mhz processors and 2 gigs of memory, but is running at about 50% utilization 24 hours/day now.
