Smokey's Posts

Most of Smokey's posts were to help me (or folks like me)better understand the need for after market gauges, add on's, safety issues, etc. So, in a effort to help him get to 9000, I'll ask my next set of questions.

2001,F350 CC LWB PSD, DUALLY, Maghytec Transmission and Differential Covers, SPA Guages.

1. EGT gauge does not have the same intensity or brightness as the Transmission/Differential guage. Doesn't appear to be fogged over, but is a concern. Has anyone else experienced this oddity with the SPA'S? Wired directly into the fuse box under steering wheel via fuse taps.

2. EGT (pre turbo), hit 1027 going up a 6% grade, unloaded, in OD with Cruise Control on. This seems very high to me. Is it systamic of some other problem? Boost was 8 lb.

Love my truck, love my gauges, love my mods.

And yes, I love my wife too!

Re: Smokey's Posts

I've seen the same thing on both. I have the Autometer gauges, can't remember the style name, but they are white writing on a black background, with orange pointers. None of them are very bright, I have the green bulb covers installed. I prefer dim to white. My EGT sometimes fogs up, this isn't that.

Back in August while on vacation, I was travelling west on I-68 just outside Han**** MD, up the "mountain" to the rest area. I was doing 70 mph with cruise control set, in overdrive, and the EGT pre-turbo hit 1100 and stayed there. I was running totally unloaded, just me and my wife, and not pulling anything. The truck is totally stock.

I think it is normal. I'm not sure what will happen while towing, though.

Re: Smokey's Posts

Aaron,

I have the EGT/ Boost gauge from SPA. There is a contact address in the literature in the UK. If you do not have it, I can find it (it's at home). I do not remember anything about controlling the back light levels, only On or Off.

With my stock set up, I maxed out at 1048 degrees during WOT to see how high I could get it. This occurred somewhere near maximum speed of 95 mph with stock set-up. I'll put the chip back in after the wiper motor recall, airbox TSB, and oil change tomorrow morning. Then I can see what the WD Turbo Chip does compared to stock.

Re: Smokey's Posts

Thanks for the come back. I'm just concerned because I'll be hooking up my 5'er real soon, and I don't want any surprises on the road.

I'm going to switch a couple of fuses and solder a connection and see if that makes any difference in the brightness.

Re: Smokey's Posts

You do not need to contact SPA inthe UK. They have a facility in Indianapolis Indiana. I had my guages installed there. You can contact Ron Mathis. His email is rm@spatechnique.com

He wired my lumination wire to the power wire for the guages. All of mine are the same brightness.

At 100+ mph I have hit 1350 degrees and 25 pounds of boost on mine
