Some Searching Options Removed for Speed - Diesel Forum

To try and get the forum access back up to speed, I've disabled the ability to search entire categories of forums. I hate to do it, but searching the 300,000+ posts in the Super-Duty category is very intensive on the database server. You can still search any forum, you just have to do them one at a time. A small price to pay to get the speed back up where it should be.

SOmething I've noticed on the search page, and I think this contributes to people having problems doing searches but not finding what SHOULD be there, is that it defaults to "Search by phrase". If you use a single word, it might work, but if you use two keywords or more, it tends to return nothing.

Can you make the default search type "AND" instead of "Phrase"?

No problem and this along with the archiving of some of the forums will be considered by the LMLM as just a minor hiccup and a challenge [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif[/img].

Since modifying the search thingee, I've noted improved speed of the site.

Great job Jason!

Often, I use the search more for finding a particular post by an individuals "name" or nic-name, and often get a result coming up with nothing.
This works great for those I put into my "address book", but for anyone not in it, I have trouble finding past posts.
I'm wondering if I'm going about this the wrong way?
