Suggestion on forum list descriptions

Hello!

First, a quick thanks to everyone on the administration for the excellent job on the site

Second, I've noticed something. From time to time, a new member will make a post relating to a problem with his Ford F-series diesel truck. Only thing is, instead of being in the "proper" forum, the post is submitted to the General Diesel forum. The most recent example is this thread, but it is certainly not the only one.

Now, I've seen PSD owners do this, but I've noticed that it at least seems that more people who tend to do this are owners of IDI trucks. The thread I referenced is an exception to this, but I have a suspicion that many of these people may not know what engine exactly is in their trucks when they first join up (I imagine they learn as time goes by ).

This led to another observation. Specifically, the "mini-description" of each of the SuperDuty forums on the Main forum page specify which years the section covers, as does the '94-'97 PSD board. However, both the 6.9l and the 7.3l IDI boards lack this in their mini-descriptions.

So, for example, a person not knowing which diesel engine is in their 1984 Ford F-250 may see the 6.9l board in the list (where a post asking about his truck would be appropiate), not realize that that board pertains to trucks built between 1983 and 1987, and not see a specific board for their truck and post in General Diesel instead.

My question here is this: In the interests of attempting to minimize the risk of confusion amongst new users (and the resulting workload on moderators by moving threads and whatnot), would it be worthwhile to edit the "mini-descriptions" for the 6.9l and 7.3l IDI boards to include the model year trucks covered by the two boards?

The descriptions currently read:

[ QUOTE ]
7.3L IDI Diesels (Not Power Strokes)
Technical discussion of topics related to vehicles powered by the 7.3 Liter In-Direct Injection Navistar engines.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
6.9L Diesels
Technical discussion of topics related to vehicles powered by the 6.9 Liter In-Direct Injection Navistar engines.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just something that came to my attention and that I thought might be worth submitting a suggestion.

Thank you again

Re: Suggestion on forum list descriptions

Your suggestion could be helpful to new members as you suggest. Jason is the one that would have to make the changes if he feels they would be beneficial. It is an easy job to add that bit of info. Moderators could do that but we leave those sort of customizing things to him.

Another suggestion you made about a post that was off topic, was to have the author re-post it to the correct forum. Cross-posting the same item/post is not permitted . The correct handling of a thread that is viewed as not being in the correct forum is to click on the "Notify a Moderator" icon in the "Post Extra's" area to have a moderator review the post and to possibly move it to the correct forum.

Thanks for you input.

Dick
