Just a few...

1. How bout an IRC type chat server. (irc.ford-diesel.com?)
From what I have seen and heard, it is a much better solution that the normal java/cgi/servlet solutions out there right now. All it needs is a freeware client that people can download.

2. Moderators only forum. In addition to the usual channels, this might help out internal discussions for people who don't readily have access to their email.

3. I have looked at ubb.com and other sites running this software and they have some pretty neat "hacks" that I think f-d.com would benefit from. For example, www.hometheaterforum.com has in the "Author" section, The members name, status, location, # of posts, and member since info listed. All but the # of posts could be of great use here (Eliminates a poll topic though )

4. As I said before, you really need to distinguish yourself from us "common" moderators and change the "Administrator" title to "Owner", "Webmaster" or "God of all that is called Powerstroke" or something along those lines.

A few problems here:

1) Bandwidth. Any chat server eats up enormous amounts of bandwidth and CPU time. I don't feel that's a feature worth slowing down the rest of the site. If I do any more special guest chats, I'll make an exception.

2) That part's easy

3) The hacks are nice, but have to be added each time there is a new release of UBB (about 2 per month). That's a lot of text editing for features that just amount to "eye-candy".

4) It's not currently possible to have a title above Administrator. That is slated for a future release though. It is possible through hacks, but see #3.

Shawn do you have a link to a IRC chat room? I just spent $200 on a java one but it has a 30 day return privlige. It can be available for diesel chat on Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday nights.

I could have swore I saw a free server for Unix. I am looking for it since Jason runs *BSD. I haven't seen one for WinXX yet.
