I'm getting unwanted spam emails from diesel/trailer hitch related companies. I have a feeling they are obtaining my email address from my home page here on TDS.Com. For all of you who have listed your actual email addresses there...beware! As the warning from Jason suggests...disguise your emails to prevent this from happening to you.

That's why they (Jason & Company ) always put your email address as blahblah@ remove me first .com It prevents somebody from harvesting email address from sites such as this.
I just use Bundo's email addy. I figure he'll let me know if I get something important.
on edit: My "real" ISP email address has been on file or where ever they put it, with the administrators since I first joined. I have never gotten a single piece of spam that could be connected to this site.
Now my Yahoo email is another story. I get a @#$% load of spam. But I was getting that all along.
If 30,000 plus members put Bundo's email address on their homepage...

Spammers do have software that looks for "remove me first" and other variations in email addresses and removes them.
There is also software that can actually probe an email server to see if your email address really exists .. all without sending any email. If the spammer gets a positive .. tag, you're it!
It is best just to have a junk address like Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, etc. That's the one I hand out to all my relatives.
I started using the excite.com way back in 1998 for all the emailing. Has decient spam filters. Still get one or two spams a day

The e-mail address I have posted on here receives almost no SPAM. Maybe one or two a week. And none of them are from sponsors of TheDieselStop. If you don't count Cochise. And I've even removed the "_remove_me_first_" stuff to make it easier for members that want to rag on me to do so. Click on my username to the left of this post to see my e-mail addy.
So I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

The spam emails were NOT from any TDS sponsors. If you (Jason or any Moderator or Administrator) wishes me to forward it to you via email...send me a P.M.

I've been online for about 4 years. I never got any spam e-mail until about 4 months ago, and now it's a daily thing. I think it's because I had my address posted here, which is why I took it off. None was from sponsers, it's all from some work at home gig, and comes from individuals computers. I figure they found it electronically, and removed it to keep it from happening again, but the genie seems to be outta the bottle.

I've also seen a lot of emails from other vendors (other forums). After looking closer (and contacting a few) it's just more spam, not done by them at all. Heck I've even gotten a few spams from my own addy a while back.... SPAM sucks! I get on average 50-100 emails a day, 95% of which are spam

Lots of things on the "to-do" list
Well, though it sounds mean, that's the way it works.
I mean, if you publish your phone number in a phone book, and someone calls you that you did not want, It's kind of hard to hold the phone book company at fault or anything.
You can hide your email in your user options; this can help.
There's really not a lot we can do about it.
However, if you ARE getting spam from one of our advertisers, do let us know.

You may have had your address "given up" by one of your friends. Certain computer virus types can dump a persons contact list and provide a wealth of addresses to the virus writer. There is no fool proof way to keep your address secret. Once it is discovered, it rapidly degrades. I'm looking forward to a "no call law" for email, but it will be much harder to enforce. - Mel
Help may be on the way from Bill Gates. I heard on the news that he was getting some lawsuits ready to go after spammers, since they effect his customer base.

I block unwanted spam by using the parental controls on my ISP. I set up a "parental control" on myself to block e-mail from specific e-mail addresses. Every time I get spammed, I add the sender's address the "blocked" list and never hear from them again. I personally get about 20 spams a day, if i go out for a couple days or something i come back and have about 100 spams. I just have them all go into the junk inbox, then i look through it to see if i got anything from anyone i know, if not, i delete it all. Everyones email address that i know is in the safe list and it goes directly to the inbox. I have to basically check mine every day to make sure it doesn't get over full, plus that way it makes me check it and i usually get back to people emailing me pretty quick.
