Teamroper?

Question reguarding this:

"Discussion of tampering with or the removal of the catalytic converter or EGR systems is strictly prohibited on The Diesel Stop forums. This prohibition applies regardless of the application, including so-called "off road use" or "testing". Such posts will be removed without further notice."

Why is that? Can you please give me the reason for this? Also if it is based off of emissions, we should just go ahead and remove the discussion of tuners and boxes! Heck, we might as well not talk about exhaust either because we may violate the maximum DB levels allowed by law. Oh ya, lets not talk about lift kits either, the headlight level is above what is mandated by law as well!

So what the heck is going on here? Don't delete this post so we can all get an answer from The Diesel Stop.

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Teamroper?

This has been discussed ad nauseum on this site and there really is no need to continue to discuss it over and over. So........... this is the last time I will repeat the info and to prevent the inevitable argument, the thread will be closed following my explanation.....

First of all the forum rules clearly state that posting anything which is violative of any law is prohibited. The federal Clean Air Act prohibits removing the following parts from any vehicle so equipped:

[ QUOTE ]
Exhaust Gas Conversion Systems
(oxygen sensor, thermal reactor, catalytic converter, dual-walled exhaust pipe)

Exhaust Gas Recirculation System
(EGR valve, thermal vacuum switch, EGR solenoid, EGR spacer plate, EGR backpressure transducer, Sensor and switches use to control EGR flow)

[/ QUOTE ]

So removing those parts is clearly violating the law and such discussion is prohibited.

Now, many of you would like to argue that altering the PCM through the use of a chip/tuner/module is also violating this law. Well the fact is, it may be and it may not. This is where the law becomes confusing. The PCM is considered an emissions control device on "light duty" vehicles but not in "heavy duty" vehicles. In some sections of the act, our trucks are considered "light duty" and in some sections they are "heavy duty". (note that there is no such thing in the EPA standards as "medium duty") So depending on which section you read, the PCM would be an emissions control device and in others it wouldn't.

Since even lawyers can't figure out definitively which classification we fall into with regard to the PCM, TDS has chosen to leave it alone and continue to allow such discussions.

As for the remainder of the items you mentioned, (lifts, excessive noise, etc...) those are primarily local ordinances which are not applicable nationwide, so again TDS has chosen to leave them alone.
