Thanks Guys...

I appreciate you guys jumping into the other thread and turning it into your playground for personal jumping. I'm getting the distinct feeling that some of the fine members here have learned to play the game and are gaining amusement from getting these things locked. There are around 15 different threads locked on the first page of this forum. Pretty sad....

Re: Thanks Guys...

Many of our fine members are just that, fine members. Most of which try not to get a thread locked. Some newer members haven't gotten there yet and seem to think it's a playground. Pretty sad. Wonder where this thread will go as it's certainly got potential for getting shutdown.

Re: Thanks Guys...

If we keep the personal attacks out of any thread and don't drift off the road too far. They seem to remain open

Seems simple.

Here's an idea, just generalize your disagreement without the direct frontal assault.

Some of the posters need to seek medical attention, no doubt in my mind and I'm not even an MD. Either that or some self medication in the form of a legal substance, like BEER. For those who go off half ****ed after the beer, disregard the self medication treatment and visit your local AA club.

We might need to make the login a sobriety test for those offenders. like making them type "the lazy brown fox jumped over the dumb dog" about 10 times before they get online and post something they regret later on. Let's go for a record and keep this thread open one more day!

I hear ya guys, I don't know about the brown fox deal though, I think I'd have trouble typing that ten times even when both of my eyes are staring the same way...

And some of those posters aren't new guys...

Re: Thanks Guys...

I know what you're saying. There are those that just can't be decent or civil to others. For cryin' out loud, this is a diesel truck site! Do we have to get nasty when almost all of us have the same love for our trucks? I know the OTHER forum is for topics other than our trucks, for fun, and thats great. But we need to grow up and show some restraint out of respect for everone here. We do have younger members(AKA, kids) and the old guys and gals need to be an example of MATURE behavior. I don't know why I responded because this has been discussed so many times but I just feel the need to chime in once in a while. I appreciate those of you who know how to have fun without getting too out of hand .

Oh I know. One or two newer members come to mind is all. Lately when I've taken offense by a particular reply, I just ignore it instead of adding fuel. In a weird sort of way it makes me feel better.

Good idea, Caveman.

Everyone,

Boy if this site allowed H&D (hate and discontent) I'd be right in the middle of it. But it dosen't.

So for the last few days i"ve been trying something new (to me)

Members that seldom say anything that is of interest to me, I don't even click on the thread.

Posters that continually try and provoke a reaction from people, I'm doing my best not to reply.
Sometimes takes awhile to figure out if somebody was just joking around or if they meant to be insulting.

I don't have a desire to sort out who likes me, doesn't like me, who is posting in jest, who is posting while intoxicated, who is mentally or emotionally unstable. Who had a bad day or if they just have a bug up their butt.

If anyone has ever offended me . . . I'll get over it.

Re: Thanks Guys...

I dont think the threads should be locked.

1. I think the person baiting should be banned for a week...or more

2. I think the person responding to bait should be banned for a week

3. I think the offending peoples name should be posted Here for all to see.

4. Add more moderators, I nominate LAWDOG for one, bigredrattler another, and MOST OF the people above are outstanding members.

PEOPLE are getting themselves off on locking threads THOSE PEOPLE NEED A TIME OUT, if they want to be like kids treat them as such.

Well thats my free advice, for what its not worth

Re: Thanks Guys...

If the original thread was within site rules and it was locked because of inappropriate comments by a poster, because that is the easy way to end it, I would just post the topic again, ONLY, IF THE TOPIC IS APPROPRIATE, and the discussion was within rules until some poster came in and got it locked, sooner or later, if it happens again and again, they will rid the site of such posters who only try to get posts locked..........I agree this seems to be a new tact here, disagree with the content of the thread post a "bait" or rules violating response, mission accomplished got it shut down......................It is a catch 22 for the site operators, because with 1700 or more posts a day who in the hell can keep up with it all.........daunting task, especially with this crew, myself included.................Hig

Re: Thanks Guys...

I have been following this thread for a few days and would like to add my two cents worth (as the crowd groans ) because I believe (maybe not by all, but definitely by some) that I am one of those responsible for getting threads closed. And yes I am a big guy and don’t get my feelings hurt over a bunch of words on the internet. Please also remember that this is just my opinion and personal observation from a relatively short period of time. I will also try to keep from pointing out anyone in particular so as not to get this thread locked.

- If you go back and review the threads that have been locked, it will be evident that it is not just the “newer” members that have added the excess fuel causing the flare-up and subsequent locking of the thread. It is obvious that a lot “old timers” (who have developed a flock) believe that if you are not “my friend” you have to be “my enemy.” Once the gauntlet is thrown, then the other members who have aligned themselves with the old heads chime in. The moderators seem to indulge these personalities with a lot of latitude and then the member rising to the bait is the one pointed out as being the “bad boy.” Just like sibling fights where the instigator is snickering while the retaliator is in the corner.

- Then there are the “newbies” like myself. I came to the site as a first time BB participant. I wasn’t sure where the thin blue line lay, but I have seemed to have found it a couple of times. Fair enough. I readily admit to rising to (and occasionally throwing) bait on issues that I thought were written for that purpose. Some statements are so blatantly political and myopic, that a reasonable person can’t help but to rebut the ignorance of the posters. If it were a verbal debate sitting around the campfire, I believe some of the folks who seem to be “out there” would probably be a different person. Most people act a lot differently depending on if they are surrounded by like minded participants, or are carrying a lone torch. For those that feel superior due to their numbers just remember, it takes a lot of courage to stand outside the mob and say “I disagree.”

- This is not intended to be a criticism at all, but I also believe that Jason is smart enough to know where his bread is buttered in regards to this site. It is obvious that the majority of members lean in one predominant direction. Since this is a business, I would probably do the same thing in trying to keep the majority happy.

I would like to close (as the audience applauds loudly ) in saying that I will try to follow the suggestions of some of the other posters on this thread in trying not to take offense when someone says, “they/them, always/never, black/white." Of course then again, maybe I could just do a poll to see if I should go away?

Sometimes discretion is the better part of Valerie.

No need. The paranoid or those that wish to flatter themselves will always think people are talking about THEM

Talk about pompous jerks with a fat ego and low self esteem. Who ever that description fits.

Anyway . . . this too will pass. I'm here to have a little fun and along the way maybe offer a little help. When it stops being fun or I trade my Ford in for a Dodge I'll be gone and that's a threat not a promise.

RheanMan,
I think I seriously misjudged you from the get go I enjoy your well thought out replies as they are never insulting to any one particular individual yet quite cleverly insulting to many. but I made my bed so now I must lay in it

ps. I was wrong about the Oshki thing and you were right, did I just say that and by the way your Hallowen costumes keep getting better I hope you decide on one soon

on edit: I just had a most disappointing PM with some very lame insults from a certain somebody and have since decided that I am in way over my head and must stop my critisizm of his/her threads because it is making him/her very angry so from now on I am commited to not critisizing any one particular member/him/her so the lads can rest easy now
