The cake is there but maybe what he's referring to is at the top of the forums main page in the "Extra info box" among some other info it says: "There are no birthdays today."
Why that is, I don't know.

I think that Jason posted in another thread about the "There are no birthdays today", that he had disabled the listing because it took too many resources. I can imagine if it listed all of the 40,000+ members that had a birthday on a particular day, there wouldn't be any screen space left over for the forums. Might work for a site with a couple hundred members, but not here.
I did a search of this topic in this forum and found that thread where Jason did answer this issue.
