First, I want to say that I have learned a great deal from this site.
But it comes with a price. In order to find out useful information we have to wade through all the chit chat, jokes, and useless comments. I know some of you have endless hours to spend online but there are also many of us that just want to check out the posts and get the useful information that is there. It's unfortunate that we have to spend so much time wading through the swamp just to get the needed information. I am not against a little fun now and then but I think it has gone overboard.

If you want a purely technical site, start your own. The search function, when used with the right combination of keywords and parameters, on the third full moon of the year, between the hours of midnight and 1:49 a.m. can be quite useful as well.
Actually I find all the information useful, whether it's the technical stuff or the "therapy"! That's why the site is what it is (the members make it!). You can try searching the forums to get only what you need, but many times that will generate other information you may not find particularly useful. My own personal suggestion is if you don't want to "wade through the swamp", get a full set of factory service manuals from Helm Inc. They are pretty dry reading, but they do contain only the hard technical details you may be intersted in. Cheers!
With more than 20,000 members on the site, you're going to find a lot of that. I don't think it's because hundreds of these guys don't have a life. When you get that many people on a site, it is going to happen. If you don't like the threads, you have the choice of not reading them.
For the most part, moderators do a fine job. It would be a dull site if all comments were purely clinical or if each post was moved / deleted because it didn't 100% conform to the topic.
"its not me drill sergeant, its the platoon that is out of step"
You don't have a choice anymore. We own you now .
Seriously, though, there isn't a better site than out there than this one for Superduty trucks.
I cruise the other ford truck sites every now and then, and I can honestly say that they are all way behind the curve in comparison to this site as far as accurate information . Yes, there is a good deal of irrelevent, or even misinformation on this board as well, but you can't have it both ways.
If you want the truth, don't stifle the reporters .
Although, I do agree that there are some people on this board who rarely have anything useful to say, but feel the need to post in just about EVERY single thread anyway to increase their post count .

I understand when a guy is hard pressed for time it gets frustrating trying to find the bits of info you need. Personally I feel that most of the time(in the 7.3 forum) that everyone really gets to the point and only occasionally get sidetracked. This site feels like a club or brotherhood(BOOB Man! ) rather than just a technical site. I feel like I actually know a lot of the guys here even though we've never met or spoken. I only know a few people personally who share my passion for diesels like everyone here does. Search when you're pressed and enjoy the comradery when you have time. I am gonna have to back my boyz above Biker. Some, part, most, or all of the little mods, tweaks, do's, and dont's were one (or more) man's trial and error. With open discussion and several different views of thinking is how these come about. If we were face to face its loaded with BS too, so on the screen is no different. If we couldn't lay it out in the posts it would be in email and not get near as many views on the subject.
I think I would go somewhere else if is wasn't so much fun to drop a joke in every now and then. Or strictly just the topic, this is diesel 101 not 405 advanced diagnosis.
That's my change pick it up or leave it on the ground.

good-times.webshots.com/photo/2120855500037306169oDlfMF Well did you touch it?
I'm sorry you feel that way. This site has become the BEST
by the very people you are targeting.
We share info, tricks, secrets, warranty issues, upgrades,
and for us guys with the IDI's {Brotherhood of Oil Burners} very practical info on attaning the high mileage
we bought our diesels for in the first place.
Take this as written but with 4 posts in 2 yrs you seem to be more of a lurker than a contributing member.
I'm not trying to offend but do you complain about a gas station selling cold drinks, mags, ciggs when all you want is fuel?
As stated by others, when a group shares an interest in something a certian camaradery or common bond forms.
This tends to create a comfort zone if you will.
Maybee this is what you want to see:

If there were no NONSENSE . This site would have only 25 members.I have been evesdropping for a whole year. The reason I had never joined is becouse, while wading through all the NONSENSE I found the humor, funny jokes and nice insults to be VERY entertaining. As well as Finding the answer's to ALL my diesel need's.My opinion this site is perfect just the way it is.Most generally a person doesn't have to post a question becouse it has already been asked. And there are twenty answers right there. As well as some interesting reading literature. Two for the price of one.And the price is FREE.
Hope I am not offending you.But that is my opinion.

I make a lot of jokes and tend to shoot the breeze in my posts. Sorry if that bothers you, or anybody else. But in my time here I have meet a good number of the members and have become pretty good "friends" with folks here that I've never meet or seen from all over the continent.
It makes things more interesting. Remember that one class in school that you didnt know anybody else in? Wasnt it lame? I had one like that and hated it. A bare bones and facts environment.....well.......for lack of a better word, sucks.
True, sometimes it gets a bit out of hand and TOTALY off topic (and yes, I've been apart of some of those threads) that can get annoying when your trying to get some info. But like the others have said, with so many members and not so many mods and admins, it's hard sometimes to get things back on track. Some b.s. is good for the soul
Why are you posting this? Looks like you have enough time for a senseless thread?
