This tread name changing game going on needs to stop
I have noticed quite frequently lately that people are editing the name of the original post and if replied to it continues in the edited title and not in the original posters title. To me this should not be allowed and is unfair and unreasonable to the original poster. An example of this exists now in the other forum where the original post was about the dixie chicks and someone changed it to "country sucks", I have no dog in that post fight, I just think no one should be able to change a post title, it is a software weakness that should be addressed....................... Re: This tread name changing game going on needs to stop
Sounds kinda like a moot point to me, if i am understanding you properly. It'd be like me posting to this and changing the subject on my little screen here to "this sucks". Then everyone that clicked on my post to reply would also get the "this sucks" subject title.
To me even if the person responding didn't change the title but started talking about something else people would still reply to that and talk about that new subject if they felt like it. And if they wanted to talk about the other subject that was the original thread title they just need to click on the appropiate reply button..
I think I agree and while not I'm not familiar with the thread you are talking about, I think that once a threads owner decides on the topic it should not be changeable or editable(is that a word ) by responders. Maybe Jason can incorporate this in a future upgrade/option

The original topic name is not editable except by the original poster. Replies can have any subject the replier wants, that's the way it is supposed to work and is not a bug.

Jason,
Understand that it's not a bug, but if the responder is not replying to the original threads topic the post should not be allowed since it's now off topic. ... I guess we have to agree to disagree maybe. ... I still vote to not have responders change the original thread's subject line.

I see your point Tut, it can be confusing.. now if you reply to me. The subject of the original post has been altered to fit me.

It's actually more confusing when a thread runs for several pages.
You click on the last page and think about the subject.
When you go back to find the thread you read... it's not there.
that would be a good handle though.... "someone" why didn't I think of that
I don't see it as a big deal. It doesn't change the beginning of the thread, only on the site with "recent posts".

Re: This tread name changing game going on needs to stop
Sorry, but this needs to be addressed, no one should be able to edit a thread title, if so this could go on endlessly and threaten the integrity of an original posters thoughts....If you look in the index of new postings it will list the last post thread name, which could have been edited, and would serve to diminish the original posters intent. The ability to edit this could be used to diminish or otherwise cause a post to be off topic or lessen its credibility.............
