Unread postings showing in red...
I would like to understand how the forum software works, in relation to the RED number in parenthesis next to the "replies"?
I understand that it may work on "cookies" sent out, or at the very least use these cookies to know whether you are logged in or not. If not logged in, obviously you won't see any of these "red" numbers next to the replies, but I personally am finding that when I log in, it will not show these "red" numbers in parenthesis, so I always check to see I am logged in, and then I click to "refresh" the session, still with the same result!
I use these red replies to decide on which posts to read, so I would like to find out why on some occassions they are not showing up? Usually, refreshing the session works, but today (and this has happened in the past) the very top post shows a (1) in the replies, but there are no more under it, and I know for a fact that I certainly have not read all the below posts, or for that matter have read any newer posts, as I haven't been online for about 12 hours or so.
I doubt it's my computer, as the exact same thing happens when I check the forum out at work, so I thought if I had a better understanding of how they work, perhaps I can do something at my end to make it happen?
Any help on understanding how these things work, or what I can do to have them work consistantly would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
