Vendors butting in posts

I am just about sick of vendors plugging there products when it isn't even part of the post. Look at the 600,000 mile psd post. There is another amsoil post. Man I hope to never hear that name again. Then bob tries to cover it up be saying he's looking out for the environment, give me a break. Mark

Re: Vendors butting in posts

Excuse me? The report may be false. I have trouble believing someone could have reached 630,000 miles on an SD yet.

However, Bob's follow-up post is a simple statement of fact. There is no question that the use of a full synthetic oil as he describes would have a substantially smaller environmental impact. That it happens to represent a product he sells doesn't matter to me one wit.

You'd be well advised to resist impugning his character and his motives. The evidence speaks for itself.

I spent a weekend last year camped beside the man and his family. He worked like a Trojan the entire time, and not once did I observe anything that even remotely resembled a hard sell or a false statement. He simple showed his products, and then provided installation service far beyond nearly any other vendor I've ever seen.

Bob, like Brent at DIS and I'm beginning to think Mark at WD, has a lot to teach the rest of the selling world about how to perform.

Re: Vendors butting in posts

It's off topic and I don't butt in when someone asks him about Amsoil. A vendor needs to wait until someone asks about his product before plugging it.
So what if it might not be true, what the heck does that have to do with amsoil.

Re: Vendors butting in posts

Diesel Doc,
Sorry if you wer offended at what you thought was a blatant plug. To me, that was the first thing I thought of. Like I said, if is true that one did this huge mileage in such a short time, he dumped more oil in two to three years, than most do in a life time with the same trucks. Now compare that to a person with a car, he dumped more oil than a family in a lifetime with three cars! I did not take that environmental issue lightly.

Re: Vendors butting in posts

Before there is an enviroment issue it should be determined if that oil he used was disposed of legally or not. If it was dumped properly how can you be liable for an eviromental issue, once dumped properly and legally its pretty much out of our hands

Mark,

Are you sure your bias against Amsoil is not shining through here a bit....

Re: Vendors butting in posts

The post origination was about vendors plugging products, and I, for one, appreciate any vendor willing to take the time to keep up with all of us (usually reading several forums) and targeting their products toward our concerns. Bob has been more than informative on several forums I read, and other BB's as well. His comments are never "you should" oriented - but informed facts based on experience. If we would ever ban knowledgeable people from expressing their opinions, we would suffer, not them. I stand behind Bob, I know he has helped me, and feel only right in throwing some business his way when I need something (not when I am "sold" something) because of the time he takes to educate us. Ditto for DIS (Brent) and WD (Mark).

Re: Vendors butting in posts

Thanks guys. If you remember the first post in that thread mentioned the miles and that "he changed oil every 3 thousand miles". As an amsoil dealer, of course I thought of that issue and posted it since that is an oil change every three days.

I also didn't assume he dumped the oil on the ground anywhere, just that that wasa lot of oil disposal for someone to take care of.

Re: Vendors butting in posts

The real value of the forumns is the variety of individual takes on a post. I for one would not have considered the environmental impact. But I should. And I now have. Thanks to all the members who bring up side issues I wouldn't have thought about otherwise.

Re: Vendors butting in posts

Guys, isn't oil that's properly disposed of collected and recycled? How does that affect the environment? Can synthetic oil be recycled in the same way? What happens when old synthetic and dino oils are mixed in the same collection container -- does that have an effect on the recyclability of the oil?

Steve.

Re: Vendors butting in posts

I just realized that here I am driving a 7000 # vehicle alone, unloaded, consuming .1 gallons of fuel per mile for 41 miles/day, 365/year and destroying the environment with exhaust emissions. (when I change my oil, the spent oil is often used in electrical power plants) So if I am concerned about the environment, I need to get a little 2000# car (1.0L) and never change the oil, right?. Let's see who is really interested in the environment here.

Randy:

Don't waste it on stumps, pour it on fire ants, let it soak in a little, add dynamite, or C4, then light it!

Oh, you guys up North don't know what you're missing. The fire ants are headed your way. When they get there, you'll know what I mean.
