Re: We close threads now because they're too long?
Hello:
Not going to jump into the fire about whether to close the thread because of length. I am on a very slow connection, 24,000 to 26,400 at best. In another Forum they told how to open many windows. I go to a topic and right click and open in New Window (or hold down the shift key and left click will do it. When I have gone through the list for the topic I scroll down to the bottom and go to the next topic (Engines and Drivetrain to Upgrades and Aftermarket). While it is loading I will go back to the new window I opened and maximize it and read it. When done I just close it and do the same to the next. When I have gone through them all I do the same to the next topic. That way I don’t have to wait for it to open. Even if I want to go to the last page in a thread I just click on it and expand the next thread window and read it while the other is doing its thing. Saves waiting for the thread to load. Just my way of dealing with a slow connection.
And for the two-cent portion of this post, Tim you owe Carpentractor an apology.

My 28.8k modem does just fine. I think breaking up an active thread is a bad idea. Perhaps that sort of a situation needs to have its own *room* like duramax or cummings or whatever. Then that subject could be further subdivided and hopefuly avoid too many pages? I don't think 4 or 5 pages is a problem however. .....boondocker

I have to agree with Carpentractor on this one. There sure is a lot of whining going on in the thread right now. What's the big deal? Instead of crying about it, you could have started another thread and this wouldn't be an issue right now.

Tim, if you would have put as much effort into starting a new thread about the duramax instead of whining about here you would have already had a nice discussion going by now.
It seems that no matter what people aren't happy unless they have something to ***** about. It's a very sad thing.

Keith wasn't necessarily doing what was best for F-D.Com, he was doing what was best for Keith. He even said that it was "a personal preference". I think doing what is best for F-D.Com would entail giving consideration to the majority of it's users. I don't think the majority of users are on slow modems. I'm on my notebook right now, and have a 46,666 connection. I agree that it's slower than at work, where I do most of my forum browsing, but I don't see a problem with speed here on multi-page threads. Perhaps a slow modem is considered 28.8K. In that case, a slow modem is probably a minority around here. The fact is, I don't recall ever seeing anybody else complain about this issue, so the vast majority of F-D.Com is content with the speed of their connection, or the page count, or both. Actually, I find that I wait longer for the banner ads to load than for the page itself. I don't see any of the moderators on slow modems complaining about that though...

Somehow I think you missed the point here. I don't even remember posting in that thread, just reading it. The reason I'm, "*****ing" is because I want to express my disapproval with this practice. I don't care if a thousand duramax threads get locked up, I just want it to be for a reason other than length. I don't see the point in closing an active, civil thread. None whatsoever.
If this topic happened to be about anything else, you probably wouldn't be saying that.
Re: We close threads now because they're too long?
Whine whine whine. What do you see that is such a huge problem Tim? I am not understanding your point. They're not censoring anyone by doing it, maybe they just want to threads to be a bit shorter. Is that your problem? NO. I am still perplexed by all the whining and moaning in this thread. At first I got a good laugh out of it but now it's kind of annoying that there are actually people out there that will whine about something so ridiculous. Like a bunch of kids or something. OPEN ANOTHER THREAD, IT TAKES YOU TWO SECONDS.

Hmmm, maybe you should re-read your previous post:
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>
So I try to feel the pain of those with similarly slow modems and cut them at the end of 4 pages. Sorry that is a personal preference. If that is wrong I will stop that policy.
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
You yourself stated that it was "personal preference". I guess I'm shallow for reading your thread and not knowing the difference between a "personal preference" and "for just me".
Re: We close threads now because they're too long?
Threads should not be closed because of length. It would be different if the UBB software didn't spawn multiple pages for longer threads. It does, so they shouldn't be closed.
