Re: What happened to "DIS" as we use to know them?
I guess when you say "what happened to DIS" you must really mean "What happened to Brent". I didn't know they posted here regularly at some point. I always just assumed they were like any other outfit, with the possible exception that down in the IDI forums, we send more business their way than anyone could ever hope for. So from my perspective the answer to the original question is "Nothing. There still there.". - Mel
Re: What happened to "DIS" as we use to know them?
Well said,
but unfortunately, such is the times we live in ! And for some, this is their livelihood...
It is up to us "regular non-vendor types" to always be ready to help with our perceptions
And while most vendors DO have more experience than some of us in their areas of expertise (not sales!),
the first perception we need to push is that we are NOT vendors out to make a buck, but just trying to help...
It's omewhat like seeing the same commercial on TV too many times - After I'm sick of it, it will drive me AWAY from the product.
Re: What happened to "DIS" as we use to know them?
I have a similar problem at work with "extra" activities. When business slows, you have to analyze where your time is being invested. They are still very friendly and helpful when I call. They clearly answered a number of questions I had and my order was placed. I continue to enjoy doing business with them.

Re: What happened to "DIS" as we use to know them?
Well said Robyn, my thoughts exactly.
Five or six years ago there was just a bunch of guys here talking trucks. Thoughts, dreams, experiences, etc, etc... Now it's slowly turning into an indirect and/or subliminal sale of something. I've gotten quite a sour taste myself.
DIS is well worth the $$, I've gotten several parts and insight from Brent in the past. I'll keep going back too!

That's one way to look at it another way is look where this site was then and what was available then parts wise and what is available now and what this site has become growth wise. You could look at it as a necessary evil, can't have one without the other.

The problem is, MANY of the parts being sold by vendors weren't even original ideas. They were stolen from the creators (members) of this site. I would be willing to bet large $$$$ that not one red cent was ever sent to Hutchinagusta for his development and shared knowledge of the fuel fixes he came up with. I would also bet alot of money has been made by the vendors on this one item alone. I could name some more items but won't bore you with it. I find it curious (telling?) that if the members want to form a "group buy" they are quickly chastised for it, but if a sponsor wants to blatently sell his wares it's OK (just make sure your sponsor dues are paid up ) In my business, if a large group wants to purchase a large volume of items, my cost goes down because I can negotiate better pricing from my supplier. EVERYONE wins.
Oh yea .... What Robyn said!

Re: What happened to "DIS" as we use to know them?
"The excellent DIS customer service is still there. And if you have questions you can call DIS or post your question by email, and Brent will take care of you - just like always. But unless the internet sales business picks up a bit, you may not see much of him spending time on TheDieselStop forums. "
I agree with the above. I bought a set of AUTOMETER gages from them recently. They worked out a great deal for me (an answered a lot of dumb questions on my part). They remember customers. I still owe them pictures once my 04 gets here.
The service has always been great with them and they will continue to get my business.

[/ QUOTE ] I'll take my turn to disagree with that. As Robyn stated, DIS NEVER lurked in one forum or the other just to throw in there two cents worth for a sale. Common sense has always been the practiced approach by them. After all, with us everday drivin' folk who typically just want our trucks to perform as they were built to want answers and remedies that don't put us in the hunt for the ONE TON NATIONALS low ET price range. As far as I know, with my limited understanding of the Diesel theory, these trucks were designed and BUILT to tow/haul with very little worry or concern about 60 foot times and short shifts for greater speed out the back door! So why would I want to hear about the latest trans control module and it's ease of installation, or the biggest honkin' injector on the market available for the 7.3 when all I'm experiencing is my truck fallin'on it's face between 2500 and 3 grand or something like that? Don't get me wrong, I've spent plenty of my time wrenchin' and tweakin' gas motors to get every ounce of launch and top end power it has! My point is that I don't need a 3600 dollar transmission just because my OD light is flashin', I don't need to pull all of my injectors and have 'em replaced with the latest full boogie model just because I got a tank of crappy fuel, and so on! They're just thinkin' of the basic fuel, air and compression needed to make these things work like they're supposed to. I think that was the whole point in the post that Robyn made. And I agree with him 100% on all the points brought to light.
