What is the "maximum edit time" error?

What is the "maximum edit time reached" error, and why does it limit me from editing my own posts that are only two weeks old?

We used to be able to edit our own posts without limitation. Now, I get the error message that the "maximum edit time has been reached."

Any help available in understanding or overcoming this?

Re: What is the "maximum edit time" error?

I think I read something hear a few days ago about the max edit time being six hours. Don't hold me to that but that's kinda what I remember.

Because they are more than 6 hours old. I don't understand why, but it's related to using a database filing system instead of a flat file filing system. With a large filing system, at some point you need to be able to put the database "to bed" without constant churning. I suppose they determined that you should be able to finish a post within 6 hours.
In reply to:

We used to have UBB as the operating software driving this site. But it was too limited as to volume allowed, so we had to upgrade to UBBThreads to handle the volume on this website. UBBThreads is different in several ways. You have found one of the differences.
In reply to:

Understanding? I don't understand why, so I certainly can't explain it. Although I was known by some as a database guru at one time, I've been out of the loop for the past 7 years, and it's all Greek to me now. But overcoming? If you find an error that needs to be fixed so that the archives won't have inaccurate facts for folks doing a search in the future, then I suspect any Administrator can edit your post for you. But when we edit a post, it leaves a tattle-tale trail of edited by (name of admin).

Which is another change in UBBThreads. In the old UBB, I could edit a post without leaving a trail. But now I can't.
