Whatever Happened to "Larrys Little Secrets"

I think that was the name of it. It had a lot of good info but it doesn't seem to be in his sig anymore. (Unless I'm going blind!)

When Larry retired from moderator duties, he also lost his moderator priviledges. One of those priviledges is the ability to edit old posts in old threads. Other moderator priviledges include the ability to lock threads, close threads, move threads, and make threads "sticky" at the top of a forum. Larry's Little Screts threads require lots of updating to keep them current, but he can't do that anymore. So unless one of the other moderators volunters to take over maintenance of the Little Secrets, then they won't be updated and will eventually be outdated.

I have a thread in the Towing and Hauling forum about beds and tow bodies for chassis cab trucks. That thread also requires constant updating, and I can't do that since I retired as a moderator. But I strong-armed Believer45 into taking over the updating duties, so that one will live a bit longer. Thanx to Dave.

Smokey, how long ago did you retire? Heck i never even noticed.

That really is too bad about Larrys stuff. I used to source that for info quite often.

As you can see from Hammers Link above, the Little Secrets are still a sticky at the top of the Van forum, just haven't been updated since 7/30/05.

Sorry for any delay ... been having major 'puter problems so haven't been around much. However, that is exactly correct and unfortunately I now feel sort of bad in starting that whole thing since it's currently somewhat misleading in some of the current information that has become available like in the coolant and tranny fluid stuff. I also quit putting it not in my signature, but in my actual post that now still remains in my posts in the archives ... I did that for a reason since the signature is not included in the archived threads, but stopped that once I resigned as a moderator. Now I see that this was a mistake since that link is now seen by folks looking at archived posts and is fully functional and now takes them to what I consider "bum" information. I personally keep something similar to the "secrets" for my personal use ... it's just in some Word type documents so I can get links etc. to current information.

As mentioned I do have an "as of date" in each post, but a lot will miss that and think what they are looking at are current.

Much of that stuff in the "secrets" are updated links to things in the archives which I had to update after each archiving which took me up to 20 hours or so the get things right.

If Jason or the mods/admins read this post the best thing now might to even consider completely deleting that thread since IMHO it's almost doing a "disservice" to the members vice what I intended for it to do when I started it since I doubt there is a way to allow me to keep that thread only current as a non TDS moderator/administrator. That's their (or I should say Jason's) call on how much "bum" or "outdated " information they want to remain on TDS.

I would caution folks to be very careful in relying on some of the information the the existing "secrets" thread in the E-series forum.

Larry

Re: Whatever Happened to "Larrys Little Secrets"

I understand where you're coming from, Larry, but I'd hope that the Little Secrets list would remain. It's similar to searching in the archives, but has many of the best old threads linked already. Folks can understand that they're from discussions that are a few or more years old, and should be able to find more current information if they feel like it.
